Contract
This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.
This UNV assignment is part of the activities deployed by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Uruguay to reinforce the joint work of the UNCT in the country to promote human rights principles as well as gender equity and women empowerment in joint programming and sensitization and advocacy for human rights, in the framework of the UN Reform. Particularly, this UNV assignment will contribute to maximize coordination among UN Agencies to implement effective joint initiatives under one of the four strategic priorities of the current Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2021-2025), related with the LNOB principal.
Under the supervision of the Head of UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Uruguay, this UNV assignment will have to provide support to the UNCT in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of joint initiatives (programs, projects, and specific activities) aiming to promote human rights of gender equity and women empowerment in Uruguay. In this framework, this assignment will have to interact with counterparts of the UN System, implementing partners, and relevant national stakeholders.
Under the supervision of the Head of UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Uruguay, the UN Volunteer will carry out the following tasks:
• Support the implementation of the RCO and UNCT strategy in Uruguay to promote human rights-based approach and gender equity and women empowerment in Uruguay. • Provide support to the RCO and the UNCT to collect and analyse qualitative information about the human rights and GEWE indicators, particularly focus on most vulnerable people, interacting with relevant stakeholders, NGOs, and community-based organizations. • Provide support to the RCO and the UNCT to keep updated information on institutions and public policies, programs, and projects on human rights and gender equity in the country. • Support the RCO and the UNCT in identifying opportunities for the implementation of joint initiatives (programs and projects) to promote the human rights of most vulnerable people. • Support the RCO and the UNCT in the analysis of strengths and areas for improvement (capacity analysis) for the implementation of an advocacy strategy for human rights and GEWE.

Uruguay is a safe country in the context of the Latin American region. The country ranks in the 51° position in the human development index, being classified as very high developed country. Also, the country is ranked by the WB as high-income country. Uruguay is also ranked as a full democracy country by the Intelligence Unit of The Economist. Finally, it is important to highlight that the country has very good infrastructure (availability of water, electricity, and communication services), an ample offer of fly connections with the regional countries and beyond. Uruguay provides for an interesting and enriching environment.
Contract Conditions:
The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance.
The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health, and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as deployment and final repatriation travel, and entry / exit allowance.
