Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Yemen is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Yemen. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level. This position is based in FAO Representation in Sanaa, Yemen. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

The Maintenance Assistant will be under the general supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the Head of Office in Aden and work closely with Admin Assistant and Admin Analyst Aden in Yemen.

Technical Focus

To support the delivery of quality, customer-focused, value for money administrative services that enable staff in country operations in line with FAO Policies.

Tasks and responsibilities

Maintenance: • Perform routine building and guesthouse maintenance duties, including painting, minor electrical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and ventilation systems maintenance • Ensure that all office equipment and IT network are in good state and functioning. Alert Admin and IT focal points of any issue and provide basic maintenance under their supervision. • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues, and fill out forms and reporting maintenance statuses to supervisor • Keep inventory of maintenance and cleaning supplies and equipment, and report needs to supervisor • Work with and maintain relationships with contracted vendors with regards to maintenance work • Respond to emergency calls for maintenance and repairs, including outside Office working hours

Administration support: • Support the Administrative Assistant/Analyst in organizing and monitoring GH occupancy and leaving conditions • Support the implementation of the Admin work in the field office; • Maintain a filing system of documents. • Support the completion administrative duties, such as following cleaning staff work schedule and attendance • Comply with all safety and health regulations • Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum of a Technical Diploma • At least two years of relevant experience, including knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems (including relevant equipment and tools) • Working knowledge of English and full proficiency in Arabic • National or Resident of Yemen.

Technical/Functional Skills

Exercise diligence and care in dealing with records and expenditures • The incumbent must possess a cooperative spirit, flexibility and openness to work in an international environment.

Selection Criteria

• Extent of experience in stores, inventory and asset management with an international organisation is desirable. • Knowledge of FAO/UN operational guidelines and administrative/procurement/inventory procedures will be an added advantage. • Ability to operate MS Office applications, web-based management systems, advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and database packages. • Demonstrates High level of integrity and ethical standards • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.). • Experience in handling of web-based management systems Understands the main processes and methods of work regarding to the position (asset management)
