Job Description

Your responsibilities

You will perform your duties at CERN's headquarters outside Geneva, under the overall supervision of the Legal Counsel. Working in the Operational Section of the Legal Service, you will:

  • Prepare and review agreements, MOUs and similar legal instruments governing CERN's scientific and technical cooperation with its partners around the world;
  • Address legal issues concerning the use of CERN's name, acronym and logos and its copyright in its publicly available multimedia resources;
  • Review non-disclosure agreements pertaining to the exhange of confidential information between the Organization and external partners;
  • Support the preparation and execution of market surveys, invitations to tender and the placing of contracts with industry suppliers;
  • Provide legal support in the context of CERN's fundraising and outreach activities.

In addition to your core functions, you may be assigned work in related legal domains.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Master's degree in the field of contract/commercial law, or a related field.
  • Up to two years of relevant professional experience in practising commercial/contract law, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the law applicable to intergovernmental organisations would be a strong advantage.
  • Proven experience in legal drafting and legal research.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and in teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, including demonstrated drafting skills. Working knowledge of French would be an asset.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Contract or commercial law, or related (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
