Job Description

Your responsibilities

As a Junior Electronics Engineer, you will join The Converter Controls Electronics (CCE) section which is responsible for the delivery of control systems for 1000s of power converters at CERN. The section is currently developing a 4th generation converter controller, in addition to supporting the existing 3rd generation devices; all of which will be extensively used in CERN's consolidation programs taking place over the coming years as part of the SY-EPC-CCE's mission to deliver controls for the consolidation programs.

In this position you will:

  • Test, validate and document the performance of controls electronic equipment;
  • Contribute to the lifecycle of controls electronics for power converters, including work on programmable electronics and SoC devices;
  • Participate in the design of digital and analogue circuits, which interface with programmable logic devices;
  • Develop validation equipment, tools and methods for digital and analogue circuits and circuits based on programmable logic devices;
  • Work on Automated Test Equipment (ATE), and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) systems;
  • Support the integration of CI/CD paradigm for converter controls.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

Required skills:

  • Experience in electronics design and development;
  • Experience in electronics test process;
  • Design of electronics board test equipment and test interface board;
  • Knowledge of Python programming language.

Advantageous skills:

  • Experience developing digital electronic modules, by using CAD tools such as Altium Designer, or an equivalent;
  • Experience in the design and realisation of electronics based on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays and/or Programmable Logic Devices and/or System on Chip using the Xilinx tool chain, Microsemi tool chain, or equivalent;
  • Experience in programmable logic design using VHDL, and simulation using ModelSim or an equivalent;
  • Experience with code versioning systems, using GIT;
  • Experience with commissioning / operation of electronic systems.

Language skills:

  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electronic Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

This position requires:

  • Residence in the immediate vicinity of the Organization's installations.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 5134 and 5647 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
