Are you a Data Engineer with a passion for managing and optimizing data pipelines? Then join our team of talented engineers and contribute to maintain and develop CERN's Corporate Information Systems! Take part! You will join the Business Computing (BC) group. Our team is responsible for the operation and the further development & evolution of CERN's core financial and procurement systems supporting the entire organization. The type of products under your responsibility will range from custom-made solutions for a few users to large and widely integrated systems with 15,000+ users.

Working with us provides numerous perspectives for being in touch with different technologies and business areas. Specifically, you will take on the following responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and test data models and extractions (ETL), using Pentaho Data Integration (and other Data Integration tools/techniques), SQL, PL/SQL, R and Python;
  • Interact with relational databases using SQL;
  • Extract and visualize data in forms, reports and interactive dashboards;
  • Configure and write software to integrate data from standard third-party provided software solutions run on premise or available in the cloud;
  • Maintain, support and enhance existing (legacy) systems;
  • Provide end user support and carry out data migrations and software upgrades.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Experience in working with data warehouses, data integration / ETL tools and business intelligence solutions;
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL;
  • Experience with version control systems, particularly, Git;
  • Initial experience with reporting/dashboarding tools and techniques (e.g. Pentaho Report Designer, CTools, Power BI, R, Shiny, Python);
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile self-organised team environment;
  • Comfortable in working with both new and legacy systems.
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Each of the following would be a plus:

  • Understanding of ERP systems and their integration with other systems;
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools like GitLab or equivalent;

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in IT, Software/Systems Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 5134 and 5647 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
