Overview

Facilitate job training and educational services for clients seeking employment.

You have:

• Must have experience in adult education, teaching or tutoring English as a second language, or workforce development and understanding of financial basics.
• Strong communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English. Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired.
• Must have demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment.
• Must have a valid driver's license and consistent access to reliable transportation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident and authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must commit to one full year of service.
• Must be high school graduates, GED recipients, working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service.
• Must complete a National Service Criminal History check.

Job Description

Background: The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future

Scope of Service: The Job Training AmeriCorps will provide training and educational services to improve client capacity to obtain and retain employment and maintain economic self-sufficiency. This position will report to the Senior Employment Specialist.

Responsibilities

•Facilitate Job Readiness Training (JRT) to employable adults, updating curriculum as needed

•Deliver engaging activity-based workshops to prepare clients entering the U.S. workforce, covering topics including, but not limited to, U.S. work culture and expectations, work documentation and new hire paperwork, resume writing, interview preparation.

•Coordinate with early employment, adult education, and financial coaching teams to deliver financial digital literacy training to clients individually or in group sessions

•Implement and conduct vocational training courses that include English language training, cultural and workplace orientation, mock interviews, creation of resumes, job skills development sessions, and digital literacy skills

•Maintain accurate attendance records and client services in client files as required

•Administer client pre- and post-assessments as required and document results in case files

•Provide employment and job placement support as needed, including employer outreach for job development and one-on-one client meetings

•Ensure that information required for program eligibility and reporting purposes is collected and that accurate records are maintained, including case files and client data entry. Ensure necessary steps are taken to obtain relevant data in a timely fashion; follow-up with all clients regularly and record all contacts with case notes

•Recruit, train and supervise volunteers from specific sectors (such as retail sales, maintenance, hospitality, light manufacturing and food service) to conduct mentoring sessions with clients

•Participate in all program meetings, development activities, and other meetings as needed

Please note this position is an AmeriCorps role where the living stipend is $28,800. Upon completion of service, AmeriCorps member will be eligible for an education award of approx. $7,395.

Proposed activities will be supported, in part, with federal funds from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) AmeriCorps State program subgranted through the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Department of Social Services. Activities are contingent upon funding availability and award from CNCS.
