Job Description

The IRC established programs in Iraq in 2003 to address the overwhelming needs of displaced people in Iraq and the neighboring countries. Since re-establishing its presence in Iraq in November 2007, the IRC has been assisting thousands of internally displaced families in the northern, central, and southern governorates in the sectors of protection, gender-based violence (GBV), early childhood development, economic recovery, Child Protection, and emergency humanitarian assistance. Today, the IRC works in close coordination with the humanitarian and development partners in Iraq and local stakeholders to address the needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Returnees, and Host communities. We operate in several governorates throughout Central and Southern Iraq, including Anbar, Ninewa, SAD, and Kirkuk, with additional offices in Erbil and Baghdad.

Job Overview/Summary: The IT Officer is responsible for assisting and facilitating the installation, configuration, staff training and operations of IT activities in IRC Mosul office. Fulfillment of these responsibilities may require regular travel to Sinjar, Kirkuk, Baghdad, Salahaddin and other locations. Prominent working relationships are the Program Managers, Emergency Coordinator, IT Manager, and IT colleagues in Iraq IRC offices.

Major Responsibilities:

(1) Installation & Configuration of:

- Servers, desktop/laptop hardware and software, and peripherals. - Local Area Network, wireless network, peer-to-peer or client server architecture, as appropriate. - Windows 10 and 7 operating system on workstations, Windows Server 2008 on servers, Active directory domain and essential network services. - Printers, projectors, etc…

(2) Maintenance, Support, Repair & Security:

- Perform preventative maintenance on all IRC computers and network resources. - Create backup solutions for office/individual users and provide the necessary training on the use of these back-up solutions. - Update appropriate network security procedures to safeguard system from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users and damage to data. - Create and maintain IRC computer software/hardware inventory ensuring accuracy. - Create and maintain network documentation to include IP address, system access, email creation system, upgrades, and changes to original network, etc. - Diagnose hardware and software faults by questioning clients patiently about a problem and explaining the procedures to them. - Work on ServiceNow system to timely resolve the incidents IT department receives from staff. - Provide weekly report to IT Manager about the topics requested report on. - Provide Field visit reports after conducting field visits. - Working towards a successful resolution of the problems clients present. - Managing/Monitoring firewall to ensure accessing internet is in line with IRC standards. - Closely collaborate with International and HQ IT team on helpdesk, connectivity and other in country and global IRC IT projects. - Investigate local Internet connectivity options to obtain adequate bandwidth for Intranet and application connectivity - with IRC Global Network. Advise the country office and Global/Regional IT accordingly.

(3) Training, Evaluation, & Testing:

- Develop and implement user and support staff training, including training on basic care and maintenance of computers and equipment for users. - Act as the Point of contact for external related IT trainings using professional development funds. - Assist Field offices and HR to identify and ensure external trainings are available to staff as this is consistently raised as an area where staff need help (ex: Excel and Word). - On demand trainings by management for new projects and applications that IRC use. - Test and evaluate new technology as requested by IT manager or Regional IT Team - Advise site managers of the technology available to help accomplish their tasks and goals and help them develop a technology implementation plan inclusive of system design and staff training. - Prepare and submit trip reports that provide sufficient detail for IT manager to understand the Field office computer environment, needs, IT staff availability and skill levels and future plans.

Qualifications

- University degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical work experience. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- CCNA courses desired, MCSE or equivalent experience is required. - PC Support experience, A+ Certification desired. - At least 2 years’ experience in IT profession. - Outlook experience required. - Experience installing, configuring, and managing both wired and wireless LAN, and firewalls. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. - Experienced in network cabling and connecting RJ45 connectors. - Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds from floor to a standard desktop. - Should be able to climb ladder to install and/or remove Wi-Fi access point.
