Overall purpose of the role Responsible for the day to day management of the IT infrastructure while supporting improvements in DRC’s IT sector. This includes assistance in providing technical support and planning support to future initiatives to increase the in-country capacity.

The IT officer main objective is to fix the Network issues, support and maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade and repair computer hardware, software and peripherals on a day to day basis for the IT hardware and software systems in use by DRC Staff. Able to independently manage DRC systems as well as implement new systems, manage IT equipment, draw up strategies, follow IT assets list, write reports in Country office and also travel to field office, Kadugli, Gedaref & Central Darfur

Main Responsibilities:

  • Planning, designing, documentation, and implementation of various systems to include desktop PC’s, servers, network equipment, and software applications and domains.
  • Monitor the internet connection and bandwidth ensuring that Service Level Agreements are adhered to.
  • Safeguard DRC data by use of security policies and procedures and implement a backup and recovery procedure.
  • Implement capacity building plan, including budget, in participatory way, which should include various methodologies, including mentoring, training and advice.
  • Monitor, plan, and coordinate the distribution of client/server software and service packs.
  • Make recommendations for new equipment and services to purchase and works with various vendors for procurement liaising with the procurement and logistics manager.
  • Assist in the organization and inventory of all hardware and software resources.
  • Provide support to staff in all field offices in relation to Internet.
  • Create and maintain good technical documentation.
  • Advice on new technologies and draw plans for implementation.
  • IT Policies and Procedures: Develop and enforce IT policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations, data protection laws, and internal governance requirements.
  • Provide (IT) technical support services to end-users.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve and keep reported records of users' problems & solutions offered
  • Install, configure, and maintain security for LAN/WAN, Internet, wireless, and remote access services.
  • Implement new software systems, and undertaking upgrades of existing systems, ensure active Anti-virus use on all computers in line with the DRC standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure 100% availability of IT systems and services across all DRC Offices - (both local area network and for remote data communication/connectivity), and Internet connectivity.
  • Create and maintain good technical documentation, for IT Tracking equipment and asset management.
  • Make recommendation for purchase of new equipment /services when necessary.
  • Develop and use a reporting system that summarizes current spending related to IT. Implement strategies for IT and IT Services for DRC.

Experience and technical competencies

  • Completion of Secondary education is required. A University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other related IT Field is an asset.
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate, CCNA or equivalent customer support certification is an asset.
  • A minimum of 3 years of practical work experience in information technology, requiring systematic methods of troubleshooting and problem solving is required.
  • Experience in providing assistance to users on IT products and services and use of applications and diagnostic tools is required.
  • Practical experience in providing technical and business Customer Support and Services is required.
  • Practical experience and working knowledge of various computer platforms and applications is required.
  • Work experience in emergencies.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic

Conditions Contract: Twelve months’ contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance. Salary and conditions in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National Staff in Sudan. This position is graded at H
