Background Information - Job-specific

BACKGROUND INFORMATION The Stop TB Partnership is a unique international organization at the forefront of the global TB response, bringing together expertise, innovation, medicines and diagnostics, and people-centered care and services from a broad range of in-country and global partners with a shared vision to end TB by 2030. Founded in 2001, the organization takes bold and smart risks to serve and amplify the voices of the people, communities, stakeholders, and partners from countries affected by TB. The Stop TB Partnership is guided by three strategic goals to:

  1. Advocate, catalyze, and facilitate sustained coordination and collaboration among in-country and global partners;
  2. Support the promotion and protection of human rights in TB responses;
  3. Support the development, replication, and scale-up of innovative approaches and solutions; and
  4. Facilitate global, equitable access to TB diagnostics and medicines.

The organization operates through a Secretariat hosted by United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Geneva, Switzerland and seven working groups whose role is to accelerate progress on access to TB diagnosis and treatment; research and development for new TB diagnostics, drugs, and vaccines; and tackling drug resistant – and HIV – associated TB. The Secretariat is governed by a Board that sets strategic direction for the global fight against TB.

COUNTRY & COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR IMPACT TEAM INFORMATION The Country and Community Support for Impact (CCS4i) team works to do just that through its innovative approach to Communities, Rights and Gender (CRG), aiming to leave no one behind in the fight to End TB and keeping TB-affected communities at the heart of everything we do. Our work is guided by three primary priorities:

  • Technically strong country responses;
  • Empowered networks of people affected by TB and civil society; and
  • Advancing a rights-based, gender sensitive TB response that prioritises TB key and vulnerable populations.

The CCS4i team believes that human rights principles, with the TB-affected community central to global efforts, underpin every aspect of the TB response, and our work with civil society and community partners is fundamental for us to achieve our goals. Civil society and TB affected communities play an important role in informing, designing, and implementing national TB strategic plans. TB affected communities are often excluded and do not have the resources to meaningfully participate in the TB response at all levels. However, engaging TB-affected communities is key to achieving the UNHLM on TB targets, and to ultimately end TB by 2030:

  • By supporting affected TB communities to engage in the TB response, more people, especially key and vulnerable populations will be able to access quality TB services and
  • By boosting demand for new TB services and tools more people will be better informed about TB and will be able to access the latest diagnostics and treatments.

By expanding community-led monitoring, human rights barriers can be monitored and overcome, enhancing social accountability and by strengthening community advocacy and engagement in national, regional, and global fora, TB responses will be people-centered and rights-driven.

EXTERNAL AFFAIRS & STRATEGIC INITIATIVES TEAM INFORMATION

The External Affairs & Strategic Initiatives (EASI) team leads the conceptualization and roll-out of multi-sectoral collaboration and opportunities between the public and private sector to address systemic barriers in TB and global health. These initiatives and projects are particularly focused on transforming healthcare systems and care models in TB affected countries by catalyzing community- and home-based care, as well as unlocking new capital and resources to increase investments in early stage innovators, particularly small and medium-enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups, developing impactful digital health technologies for TB, other respiratory illnesses, such as COVID-19, and TB co-morbidities.
