Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Please visit our website at www.eclac.org for further information. The internship is offered on a hybrid basis (remote and in-person). To work remotely the applicant shall have full access to a computer with a modern browser and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams) installed to perform the tasks within the scope of the internship. The computer must have basic IT security best practices implemented. The internship in the International Trade and Industry Unit of the Subregional Headquarters of ECLAC in Mexico will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected on an "as-needed" basis throughout the posting period. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the project lead, the intern is expected to undertake the following activities: • Work on projects on economic affairs of the Subregional countries. • Working on input/output tables for specific research projects. • Assists in designing, testing, operating, and modifying econometric models. • Prepares briefing notes, inputs to first drafts of analytical studies, and similar material on macroeconomics, development economics, and public economics in a meaningful form to non-specialists. • Compiles and analyses the data and other information necessary for preparing technical cooperation project proposals in macroeconomics, development economics, and public economics. • Collects, evaluates, interprets, and analyses specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from various sources pertaining to macroeconomics, development economics, and public economics, particularly in the ECLAC Mexico sub-region. • Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organizes non-quantitative information.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). -Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. -Applicants must be a student in the final year of the Bachelor´s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
