Technical Focus
Under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative (FAOR) and the technical supervision of Lead Technical Officer, and in consultation with relevant government departments, non-government organizations and other national and international organizations concerned, and in close cooperation with FAO country team, Project Task Force, the international team leader will conduct the following tasks:
Tasks and responsibilities
- Lead technical planning, overall coordination, and monitoring of all project activities by developing Implementation Strategy. The ITL will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of project outputs with support of National Team Leader;
- Provide technical support to project’s workshops, meetings and training activities (to be documented in working progress reports)
- Provide technical guidance and inputs on sound methodologies/approaches to ensure that project activities are implemented using relevant approaches, tools, methodologies and best practices (to be documented in working progress reports)
- Review and improve project technical reports and other project deliverables to ensure quality and request revision (if applicable) before submission to the LTO for approval (to be documented in project progress reports);
- Prepare TORs for consultancies, service contracts and letters of agreement and advice on their implementation;
- Provide advice so that gender issues are adequately addressed during the project implementation (to be documented in project progress reports);
- Ensure that “GEF core indicators" are achieved in correct and timely manner (to be documented in project progress reports);
- Participate in FAO Project Task Force Meetings and support Project Steering Committee Meetings (to be documented in project progress reports);
- Review and approve documents that do not require LTO approval as needed ensuring that technical content meets required standards (to be documented in project progress reports);
- Review and complement project annual work plan and budgets (to be documented in project progress reports);
- Track (with support of monitoring expert) the project’s progress, and review and improve six-monthly Project Progress Reports (PPRs) and annual Project Implementation Review (PIRs) (to be documented in project progress reports);
- Travel to project areas on a regular basis.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- University degree in an environmental science and natural resource management.
- A total 12 years’ experience in Biodiversity conservation, integrated landscape management, protected areas management.
- At least 5 years, experience in governance, planning and management of PAs at system and site levels;
- At least 10 years of senior leadership/advisory roles.
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).

Experience in institutional strengthening and capacity development within nature conservation sector.

- GEF project management cycle, including inception, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, exiting and demonstrating adaptive management.
- Extent and relevance of experience in participating in, or leading, multidisciplinary teams.
