This assignment is seeking a international legal professional with a minimum of five years working experience to support a joint legal initiative. The Global Fund for Coral Reefs offers developing countries, donors and investors the opportunity to deliver on international commitments related to biodiversity, climate and wider human rights. The GFCR requires a widespread analysis of relevant international treaties, conventions and related frameworks which are applicable to the initiative's mandate and potential impact.   • Conducts research and analysis on a variety of complex and intricate treaty law and other related international law issues;
  • Drafts the assignment timeline and completion of tasks deadline within the project;
  • Processes and edits treaty-related findings and reports for the desktop and web-publishing;
  • Plans and supervises the activities aimed at the dissemination and wider international law-related findings, including the dissemination of treaty-related information through the COPs and other forums; and
  • Prepares sets of key messages and talking points for Member States, treaty bodies and international organizations.

Professionalism: Knowledge of public international law and its application to legal principles, issues and concepts; knowledge of treaty law and practice; analytical skills, sound judgment and ability taking into account various policy implications.

Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

Planning & Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law with training in public international law. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in public international law is required. Experience in the specialty of treaty law is desirable.
