How can you make a difference?

Scope of Work:

 Design a curriculum for experiential learning in natural sciences and STEM for lower secondary education (Grades 5 to 9, students age 10 to 14) composed of experiments and practical hands-on activities, that will serve as basis for a training programme of teachers in natural science (chemistry, biology, geography, and physics). The design and development of the curriculum is going to be in close collaboration with the implementing partners and the Bureau for Development of Education .  Deliver a training programme for strengthening the competencies of teachers for introducing environment and climate change education through science experiments and activities and advance the inquiry and investigation teaching practices in natural sciences and STEM. Furthermore, provide support and guidance to peer support teachers in identifying materials, teaching aides and resources, video lessons and tutorials etc. which can be adapted to the local context and use in the newly equipped school laboratories.  Provide mentorship and coaching sessions with peer support teachers who lead science teachers’ actives as a form of professional learning communities. At the end of the process, provide an analysis with strategic considerations on how to further strengthen teacher actives and ensure that they are functioning as a professional learning community and contribute to continuing professional development of teachers.  Support BDE advisors to systematically integrate science curriculum for experiential learning into the education system, including strengthening the role of the State Education Inspectorate in monitoring and evaluation of experiential learning in natural sciences as part of the external school evaluation.  Maintain close collaboration and coordination with implementing partners and consultants working for strengthening the environment and climate change education to ensure clear linkages and synergy between the educational programmes for experiential learning from preschool education to higher secondary education.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Minimum Qualifications required: PhD in Natural sciences, STEM, teachers education, experiential learning in teachers practices
  • Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required: - Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in educational program design and research, particularly in establishing education venues that promote professional development of teachers in the area of science and STEM at the national or international levels. - Experience as a practitioner in educational institution working as teacher trainer. - Experience in developing training modules and materials, and delivery of specialized trainings to the targeted audience. - Excellent analytical and writing skills. - Fluency in English (oral and written). Knowledge of another UN language is an asset. - Knowledge of the country context is an asset.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. The candidate may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid).
