How can you make a difference?

Psychosocial support to personnel: ability and certified qualification to provide psychological counselling services to individuals and their dependents.

The consultants will be expected to provide counselling and psychosocial support sessions to individual staff members and their dependents and groups of staff, as required, focusing on national and female personnel.

This will include response to acute crises and mental health awareness sessions for the wider Afghanistan Country Office staff.

The selected consultants will be engaged for a maximum of 100 sessions (80 individual and 20 group sessions) and will be paid against submitted invoices for actual services rendered.

C. For Individual (Proposed Team):

An advanced university degree (Master’s) in counselling, clinical psychology, or related mental health profession.

Minimum 8 years of professional experience in staff support, mental health, cross cultural communications, counselling, and related areas, preferably gained within the UN system or international development/humanitarian aid sector.

Resourcefulness and keen social awareness and sound judgement pertaining to common counselling areas of intervention, including, but not limited to burnout, anxiety, depression, self-care., addiction, domestic violence.

Non-judgmental clinical approach, with strictest adherence to staff’s confidentiality.

Understanding of the Afghanistan context is an advantage.

Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency duty station is considered an asset.

Fluency in English is required. Fluency in written as well as oral in local languages is required.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
