EXPECTED OUTPUTS AND TIMELINES:

Output 1 by 15 March 2024 In executing the below-mentioned tasks, the Consultant is to ensure coherence with the established SheTrades Initiative branding (or otherwise advised), as well as alignment with guidelines stipulated in the ITC Style Guide: • Drafted and edited at least two web stories, news updates, or press releases and managing their production and publication in collaboration with ITC Communications and Events Section (CE); • Manage day-to-day drafting, editing and scheduling of social media content on Trello as well timely publication of various posts on both programmatic and corporate platforms; • Coordinate the development of at least two communications products (e.g. digital cards, flyers, brochures) in collaboration with the graphic designer and prepare requisite design briefs where applicable; • Update or draft web content for the SheTrades.com platform on a regular basis and coordinate the development of new functionalities on SheTrades.com in collaboration with the SheTrades web developer; • Manage the programme’s Women and Trade inbox, ensuring that all clients’ needs are directed to the appropriate project or staff and are addressed promptly.

Duties and Responsibilities

The International Trade Centre (ITC) is a joint agency of the United Nations and World Trade Organization based in Geneva. ITC’s mission is to enable small business export success in developing and transition- economy countries, by providing, with partners, sustainable and inclusive development solutions to the private sector, trade support institutions (TSIs) and policymakers.

The International Trade Centre launched the SheTrades initiative to create an ecosystem of integrated solutions that empower women economically through greater integration in trade and investment. The Initiative ensures that the right capacities and conditions are present for women to trade and that they are supported by an ecosystem of market partners and effective support organizations. At the same time, SheTrades works to remove inequalities in the trade policy space that hinder women’s participation.

ITC recognizes that Gender Equality is a right in and of itself and a requisite for sustainable development. All women everywhere have the right to a decent income, employment, working conditions and a choice and voice in shaping their economic context. It is in this context that ITC developed a Gender Moonshot, which serves as its strategy to become more inclusive, results-driven, and future-oriented.

OBJECTIVE: A key objective of the Gender Moonshot is to strengthen gender mainstreaming across ITC projects and programmes. To further strengthen its internal coordination mechanism in order to a) improve the quality of gender mainstreaming across ITC projects, b) increase the visibility of ITC women and trade agenda across all ITC projects, and c) create new services, knowledge products and tools.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Consultant will work for ITC’s Women and Trade Programme (SheTrades Initiative) under the direct supervision of the SheTrades Associate Economic Affairs Officer and Head of Communications. The Consultant is expected to perform the following duties in support of both project and programmatic needs:

• Draft and edit web stories, news updates and press releases; • Draft and edit social media content, support with the management of ITC SheTrades social media accounts, schedule and coordinate the publication of social media content on both programmatic and corporate digital platforms; • Support with the development of SheTrades communications products; • Update web content on the SheTrades.com platform on a regular basis; • Provide coordination support for the development of new functionalities on the SheTrades platform; • Manage the Women and Trade email inbox and direct enquiries to relevant project managers and coordinators; • Prepare digital cards, carousels, flyers using existing design templates provided by the programme.

The Consultant is obliged to provide full access to ITC external and internal auditors to documents and information. In addition, the contractor shall comply with any audit undertaken in line with the financial regulations and rules of the United Nations.

Copyright Clause: The Consultant has to ensure that s/he has obtained the necessary permissions with regard to intellectual property rights required to perform his/her services under this consultancy contract and for the subsequent dissemination by ITC in any form. Documentary proof is to be submitted to ITC. Should any license fee be due for the use of copyrighted materials of third parties, the Consultant shall request prior written permission from ITC. S/he has further to ensure to obtain accreditation to event(s), if required.

Qualifications/special skills

Undergraduate degree (BA/BSC or other). Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Social Sciences or a related field. Extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree. At least three years of professional experience in journalism, communications or related field. Experience with website copyediting, web development, SEO, UX/UI is desirable. Previous experience working in gender-related issues and/or communications and journalism is desirable. Experience with using Trello, Canva and Adobe Suite (particularly Adobe InDesign and Photoshop). Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Excellent use of Microsoft Word software and its functionalities. Attention to detail. Ability to work reliably and independently with minimum supervision. Previous exposure in producing communications materials on gender-related issues desirable. Portfolio of past works (writing or design) is welcome.

Languages

Mastery of English, both spoken and written. Outstanding knowledge of grammar and syntax in English.
