PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT:

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Representative Operations and in close coordination with the Supply Snr. Supply Associate and Supply and Procurement Assistant, the incumbent will coordinate the logistics operations of UNICEF in Iran. Responsible for logistics operations including planning, coordination of incoming shipments, warehousing onwards transport, and distribution and training of new staff on logistics in UNICEF. Advises on all matters within logistics. Collaborates closely with supply team and programme colleagues in defining logistics interventions to meet programmatic needs.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

Strategic planning and organization:

  • Organize and coordinate logistics operations into and within Iran
  • Design and implement logistics strategies (warehousing, transport, and distribution) and elaborate the Supply and Logistics Strategy to support UNICEF programme response,
  • Ensure appropriate processes and systems are in place to ensure the efficiency of the logistics operations (e.g. transport requests, receipt, and dispatch of goods).
  • Establish proper reporting mechanism and share information (supply and logistics dashboards)
  • Coordinate with logistics cluster partners and/or WFP and provision of logistics capacity.

Logistics and transport:

  • Ensures appropriate and timely planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of logistics operations.
  • Establishes routing and scheduling plans for distribution.
  • Coordinates transport planning with the supply team, programme, third parties, and partners.
  • Mobilize transport capacity. Issues delivery schedules to programme for confirmation.
  • Strengthen the mechanism to track and monitor supplies (end-user monitoring) in close cooperation with Supply staff /Programme / M&E.
  • Raises logistics bottlenecks to supervisor for prioritization.

Warehouse and stock management:

  • Ensure the newly established, the outsourced warehouse is operating efficiently and in line with UNICEF procedures.
  • Train warehouse and logistics staff in UNICEF processes.
  • Ensure availability of appropriate storage and handling capacity.
  • Manage stocks (physical and information management) and warehouse team.
  • Monitor pipeline; plan for space needs and receptions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate order preparation.

Support to supply staff and any other duty as might be required by the supervisor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

An advanced university degree from a recognized academic institution in one or more of the following areas is preferred: Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Management, International Economics, Engineering, International Development, Contract/Commercial Law, or areas directly related to logistics operations or UNICEF programme areas. First University degree combined with demonstrated professional work experience and understanding of relevant functions may be considered in lieu of an advanced university degree, preferably combined with credited courses or certifications from relevant professional bodies in supply chain management, procurement, contracting or logistics.

Work Experience:

Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible professional work experience at international levels in logistics management. Experience of complex logistics response in emergencies.

Languages:

English. Farsi/Persian is an added advantage.
