Background Information - Job-specific

CG Communications team develops communications strategies, policies, plans and channels based on internal and external communications needs and expectations; maintains and strengthens UNOPS corporate identity through official reporting to the Executive Board and other external communications, enabling accountability and transparency; communicates a clear direction and strategic focus, ensuring that the people of UNOPS understand and can demonstrate their contribution to its success; and facilitates and encourages the sharing of information, knowledge and best practices, achieving dialogue throughout the organization.

The intern will work in the Communications Group under the direct, overall supervision of the UNOPS Internal Communications Team Lead and will be exposed to the implementation of UNOPS internal communications strategy. UNOPS is committed to achieving a truly diverse workforce.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting a variety of tasks and work packages as a part of her/his internship period. S/he will notably support the Internal Communications Specialist in the coordination of planned communication activities, both in UNOPS headquarters and in UNOPS country and regional offices.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Internal Communications Team Lead, the Internal Communications Intern will be helping with:

  • Supporting content development, maintenance, and periodic updating of the intranet through the site owner training program - Liaising with ICT web developer to support the implementation of intranet improvements

- Supporting the identification of areas for the improvement and development of the corporate Google Drive, including best practices for document management

- Supporting with tracking and monitoring trends and drawing insights from the internal communications' monthly analytical report

- Supporting knowledge sharing activities related to community management (knowledge share fairs, regional communications meetings, UN Internal Communications meet-ups) by planning, taking meetings minutes and following up on action points.

- Assisting in the planning of internal events, including the UNOPS Town Halls and UNOPS Awards, and in maintaining the team calendar and process flows

- Supporting the setup of webinars and other online collaborative workspaces as requested

- Supporting the creation of the weekly internal newsletter, including assisting with the planning, content coordination and technical set-up

- Supporting the strategic planning of communication campaigns, including UN international days and corporate initiatives

- Assisting in developing strategic information, including data visuals and reports, that communicates key evidence with diverse stakeholders.

- Collecting, preparing and archiving historical records, annual reports, photo archives, media reports, organizational statistics

- Preparing transcriptions from audio to document of recorded interviews

- Conducting editorial reviews as required

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

The candidate must be currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a Bachelor/Master’s Degree in a relevant area, preferably in Communications, Knowledge management, Public Policy, International Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, or International Relations, or have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the application date of the internship.

Experience

While no prior work experience is required, some experience in developing, coordinating or delivering communications activities, ideally within the development sector, is highly desirable.

Additional requirements

Knowledge and experience working with Google Workspace and Google Analytics is desired;

Passion for own development and the development of others is strongly desired;

Excellent coordination skills are highly desirable; Experience in facilitating training sessions is an asset;

Languages

Fluency in written and spoken English is essential;

Working knowledge of Spanish or French is considered an asset.

Contract type: Internship

Contract level: N/A

Contract duration: 6 months

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend of USD $1,300 from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of USD $500. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
