The Country Programme of Cooperation between the Government of Mozambique and UNICEF (CPD) for 2022-2026 aims to support Mozambique to accelerate efforts towards achieving the targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and meeting its commitment to respect, protect and fulfil the rights of children, in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action. It derives from the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), 2022–2026 and aligns with the Government Five-Year Plan 2020–2024, the National Development Strategy 2015–2035 and relevant sector policies and programmes.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF Mozambique WASH programme works at national and decentralized level, with a variety of interventions covering both Enabling Environment, Field Implementation, Emergency preparedness and response, with a strong focus in supporting the Government of Mozambique to deliver WASH services according to national standards, strategies and goals (service delivery through capacity building). The WASH Officer NOB is part of the WASH component of the respective Field Office Team, reporting to the WASH Specialist NOC in the field office and the WASH Specialist (Water Supply) P4 based in Maputo (in the cases of Quelimane and Nampula) & and to the WASH Specialist (Water Supply) P4 based in Maputo and the WASH in Emergency P4 based in Pemba (in the case of Pemba).

Purpose of the job: The WASH Officer (Water Supply and WASH in Institutions) provides technical, operational and administrative support throughout the WASH programming process. The Officer prepares, manages, and implements a variety of technical and administrative tasks, related to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH output results of the country programme, focused but not limited to Water Supply component, including related activities in other components of the WASH programme supported by UNICEF Mozambique in the province and other geographical areas covered by the province allocated.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree (Bachelors Degree) in one of the following fields is required: Civil engineering, Hydrogeology, and or water engineering.
  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.
  • DEVELOPMENTAL: A minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.
  • HUMANITARIAN: Experience in planning and implementation of emergency response in the WASH sector is an asset
  • Fluency in Portuguese is required Proficiency in English and other local languages is a strong asset.

Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.

There will be no relocation package offered for this post. The successful candidate will be responsible for his/her own relocation and settlement in the city where the post is based.
