Overview

Support the Ministry of Energy in coordinating climate and energy initiatives.

You have:

  • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
  • The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship: environmental studies, engineering, energy systems, climate science, economics, social sciences, public policy, communications, or related areas
  • Strong analytic and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication abilities
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience in research in climate change, renewable energy, public policy
  • Experience in organizing events is an asset
  • Ability to work with diverse partners
  • Fluency in English is required
  • Knowledge of Macedonian and Albanian is desirable

Duties and Responsibilities

The UN in North Macedonia works closely with the Government to accelerate the green and energy transition in line with SDG7, SDG13, and the European Green Deal. This internship will support the Ministry of Energy and the UN Country Team (UNCT) in coordination, knowledge management, communications, and event organization related to climate action, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and just transition. This internship is located at the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in North Macedonia. The Intern reports to the Head of Office and Partnerships, Development Finance Officer and Communication Officer of the RCO. Key responsibilities include: 1. Joint Events & Coordination Support the planning, organization, and delivery of joint UN–Government events, including workshops, consultations, technical meetings, and stakeholder dialogues on energy transition, climate change, air quality, and just transition. Assist in preparing concept notes, meeting minutes, logistical plans, participant lists, and follow up actions. 2. Project Development Assist in drafting, researching, and formatting project proposals related to green transition, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, and data systems. Support background research and data collection for climate and energy related initiatives. Contribute to analytical briefs, situation overviews, and donor mapping exercises. 3. Communications & Advocacy Drafting short communication products: social media posts, stories, infographics, fact sheets, and event summaries for UN and Government communication channels. Support visibility efforts for national campaigns and UN–Government initiatives related to the green transition. 4. Data & Technical Support Support the collection and organization of data relevant to energy and climate policy (e.g., greenhouse gas data, renewable energy adoption, energy poverty). Assist with the use of new digital and AI tools for improved analytics and reporting. 5. Logistics & Administration Assist in providing logistical support for in person and hybrid meetings with national and international partners. Support preparation of agendas, briefing packages, and documentation. 6. Other Tasks Any additional responsibilities requested by the RCO related to the energy transition and climate agenda.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Fields of study may include: environmental studies, engineering, energy systems, climate science, economics, social sciences, public policy, communications, or related areas. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Macedonian and Albanian is desirable.

The intern must have access to a computer and reliable internet connection. The UN Mission will provide access to necessary software and databases.
