You have:

  • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate degree or equivalent.
  • Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Studies in Communications, Administration, International Relations, Journalism, Political Science, Public Policy, or related disciplines are highly desirable.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset.

Expected duration

This internship will last a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months. It is designed to be hybrid, with some days working at the office and others working remotely (home office).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. The internship in the Communication Section of the Resident Coordinator’s Office Paraguay (RCO) will last will last 3 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the Team Leader and the Communication Officer. The intern will support the team in the administration and communication section. Tasks will include: • Drafting, editing, and adapting communication materials (press releases, web content, social media posts, reports). • Providing administrative support to the office, including filing, organizing documents, scheduling meetings, and other tasks as required by the Team Leader or other staff members. • Supporting the update and maintenance of UNIC Asunción’s website and social media platforms. • Assisting in producing communication products (infographics, videos, newsletters). • Supporting media monitoring and compiling background information for press briefings and events. • Assisting in the organization of communication-related events and supporting logistical arrangements and coordination. • Assisting with photography, captioning, and basic video editing. • Helping maintain and update internal databases, mailing lists, and communication tools. • Supporting coordination with government entities, civil society, and development partners on public outreach activities. • Performing other communication and administrative tasks as requested.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). For this internship, studies in the fields of study in Communications, Administration, International Relations, Journalism, Political Science, Public Policy, or related disciplines are highly desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset. NOTE: "Fluency" equals a rating of "fluent" in all areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and knowledge of equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations.
