  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Czech is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre in Prague (UNIC Prague), within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Department of Global Communications. The UNIC Prague is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Czech Republic. The Information centre is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to a local audience in English and Czech; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Head of Office. Internship is for three (3) months part-time, in-person with an opportunity for extension up to a maximum of six (6) months, depending on the needs of the department. The intern will support the team in the administration and with strategic communication priorities. Duties may include but are not limited to: - Assisting in maintaining UNIC digital communication channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), adapting social media assets in Canva, designing and posting Instagram and Facebook stories, subtitling videos; - Assisting in editing/adapting content of UNIC Prague’s website; - Maintaining database of social media visuals and other graphical elements in Trello; - Assisting in maintaining UNIC contact database (MS Excel, Mailchimp); - Translating and editing (English-Czech and v. v.); - Assisting in organizing UNIC’s public events (education programmes, seminars, conferences, street festivals, job fairs, etc.); - Assisting with media monitoring; - Assisting in responding to public inquiries and media communication; - Assisting with logistics and administrative agenda; - Assisting with secretarial functions (incoming mail, phone calls, emails).

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Fluency in spoken and written Czech is also required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable.

Additional Information

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
