Org. Setting and Reporting This internship is located in the Strategic Workforce Planning Section (SWPS) and the Staffing Diversity and Outreach Section (SDOS) in the Strategic Talent Management Service (STMS), Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD), Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC).

The internship is for a minimum of two (2) months and may be extended for a period of up to a maximum of six (6) months. The internship is UNPAID and is designed to be in person and full-time at the duty station. Depending on the situation of the successful candidates, the internship may also be conducted remotely and/or in part-time. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities The United Nations is looking for a creative and motivated individual to join our Employer Branding Group and other teams in the Office of Human Resources as a Design Intern in the New York Headquarters. This person will assist with the creation of a wide variety of materials associated with the Organization's global employer marketing campaigns and initiatives, with the opportunity to be involved in all stages of employer marketing content development, from ideation to production.

The Design Intern will get hands-on experience working on designs and layouts for publications, websites, blogs, email campaigns, social media, brochures, presentations, ads, event materials, and other brand enhancing assets. While working on projects, the Design Intern will collaborate with our communications lead, other team leads, as well as members of our social media marketing, event management, digital media and Member State coordination teams. Beyond design experience, they will gain a deeper understanding of the varied disciplines involved in employer marketing campaigns.

Under the supervision of team leaders, the following are examples of the intern's duties: - Assist with the design and production of graphic solutions that support the Organization's strategic career communications using tools including but not limited to: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva and other graphic design applications. - Participate in the full design workflow process, including: working with team members on concepts, storyboards and design drafts; receiving direction and acting on input from team leads and other senior stakeholders; working with section members on updates and content revisions; preparing finalized layouts for production and distribution across a variety of communication channels; and regrouping to discuss project successes and lessons learned. - Follow all project work and ensure it adheres to organizational branding and style guidelines, including accessibility guidelines. - Attend design team briefings and report on workflow and project statuses while taking an active role in project meetings with other team members. - Opportunities exist to assist with video editing and sound design for digital media projects. - Maintain an awareness of trends and best practices in graphic design, communications and marketing, and share insights and input on design approaches used in marketing campaigns.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1. Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), in Design, Communications, Human Resources, Journalism, International Relations, Public Administration or related field.

2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and software applications. Be proficient in standard office automation equipment scanner, printer, etc. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite -- InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat -- and Microsoft Office is desirable.

3. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.

4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

5. Have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with team members across multiple disciplines. Have demonstrated creativity and attention to detail. Have a demonstrated ability to organize and multitask in a transformative and innovative workplace. Have a demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Experience with Adobe Premiere and After Effects is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a nonimmigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.
