Org. Setting and Reporting The positions are in the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources and in the Organizational Development Section. The internships are for three months with an opportunity for an extension of six months, depending on the needs of the department.

The internships are UNPAID and full-time. Interns normally work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Communications Officer in the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources, or a Staff Development Officer in the Organizational Development Section.

The Organizational Development Section within the Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC), of the United Nations in New York is seeking interns who are interested in joining a very dynamic and international office that is mandated to identify and respond to Organizational learning and development needs.

To address an ongoing need, we are seeking several interns specializing in a range of areas including Communications, Podcasting, Visual Design, Data Visualization, Filmmaking, Instructional Design, Industrial/Organisational/Occupational psychology, Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion, Marketing, and/or other relevant fields.

Specific projects that you may be invited to assist with include: (a) Global Orientation – ensuring that we welcome all new personnel effectively (b) United to Respect – helping UN personnel to ensure a harmonious workplace (c) Career Journey Podcast - inspiring through stories of UN colleagues across the world (d) Mentoring programme – connecting colleagues online to facilitate learning (e) Various communication campaigns, and other initiatives and related work

Examples of daily tasks we are seeking interns to assist with are listed below. A. Provide administrative support - Assist with the organization of meetings, interviews, and draft meeting notes - Manage correspondence with clients and stakeholders - Draft and prepare written documents for various purposes - Design and maintain spreadsheets in support of projects and programmes - Serve as “scrum leader” as we implement agile project management techniques

B. Conduct and present research and data - Research, compile, draft and edit basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications materials, often under tight deadlines. - Assist with drafting reports based on quantitative or qualitative research and analysis. - Plan, implement, and record results of focus groups or flash consultations. - Prepare and implement measurement and evaluation plans - Research podcast best practices in terms of technical tools, marketing, and interviewing.

C. Contribute to communication campaigns - Design documents and design elements (e.g., icons, info briefs, reports, forms) - Develop and design infographics or other data visualization - Plan and draft posts for campaigns, message boards and communities of practice - Contribute to video scripts and storyboards - Support creation of podcasts: conduct interviews, edit content in Audacity software, transcribe content, produce marketing materials and online promotions.

D. Design and develop videos, online learning experiences, and slide decks - Design and/or develop learning activities in Moodle for an online course - Produce and edit short videos for learning activities and marketing campaigns - Prepare slide decks (e.g., PPT slides) and interactive quizzes (e.g., in Slido or Kahoot)

E. Support implementation of various HR (Human Resources) events, initiatives, and related work - Help to plan and implement webinars, round tables, and other special events - Organize and analyze data related to current projects - Take on other projects as assigned

As part of this work, you will be asked to use various software and tools, learning how to use them, if necessary.

On completion of the internship, the successful candidate will have gained: - An excellent understanding of the UN Secretariat, its structure and work; - Knowledge of the challenges of communications and/or organizational learning in a multicultural environment and within an inter-governmental organization; - Writing for public information and communications in an international context; - Extensive exposure to managers and other personnel of the UN Secretariat and throughout the UN System.

Technological Awareness: Keeps abreast of available technology. Understands applicability and limitations of technology to the work of the office. Actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks. Shows willingness to learn new technology.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

2. Be computer literate in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) 3. Have a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; 4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. 5. Be familiar and interested in international relations and equal representation of women and gender mainstreaming.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Though not required, having a background in communications, instructional design, visual design, data visualization (e.g., using Power BI), visual design, video development and editing, podcasting, industrial/organisational/occupational psychology, marketing, organizational development, and/or other relevant fields is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Special Notice Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a non-immigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.
