  • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and French is required.
  • Experience in logistics and design programs is desirable.
  • Proficiency in writing skills and results-research skills are desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. Tunisia has been a member of the United Nations (UN) since November 13, 1956. UN-Habitat has existed since 1975 in the world. Its headquarters is in Nairobi- Kenya; the Arab regional office to which Tunisia belongs is in Cairo, Egypt (Regional office for Arab states ROAS). UN-Habitat's mandate is to promote socially and environmentally sustainable cities. Its mission is to promote urbanization as a force for positive transformation for people and communities, to reduce inequality, discrimination, and poverty, and to achieve adequate shelter for all. The UN-Habitat office in Tunisia was established as a project office in 2017 and then created as a country office in 2019 (Organic Law No. 2019-54 of July 9, 2019, approving the agreement and exchange of letters between the United Nations, represented by the United Nations Human Settlements Program, and the Government of the Republic of Tunisia concerning the establishment of a country office for the Republic of Tunisia). The office was intended by Tunisia as a sub-regional office, also representing Algeria and Libya. The United Nations system in Tunisia currently consists of 27 specialized agencies, funds and programs that carry out their activities in accordance with their respective mandates. UN-Habitat works closely with the office of the Resident Coordinator in Tunisia within the framework of the cooperation framework document for sustainable development (UNSDCF), signed in December 2020 with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The intern reports directly to the head of office and to the program assistant. Responsibilities • Assisting in organizing the upcoming planned events. • Assisting in writing project proposals. • Assisting in communication and design tasks. • Support with the logistics tasks. • Taking meeting’s minutes. • Support with the development of the office pipeline. • Prepare presentations for important meetings and workshops. • Support in Soumoud project archiving: documentation, and knowledge management • Any other tasks relevant to the mandates of UN-Habitat.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Undergraduate in Management / design / architecture / urban planning / economy. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English and French is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
