CSG Infrastructure team is part of the Infrastructure and Value Chain department: we are in particular managing the contracts with CNES that implement the provisions of the ESA/France Agreement on CSG (le Centre Spatial Guyanais) and preparing CSG evolutions (e.g. projects toward a more sustainable Spaceport).

Topic of the internship: Climate resilience planning for Europe’s spaceport

Internship Overview:

As part of strategic planning for the future of Europe’s spaceport in French Guiana, it is essential to anticipate the potential impacts of climate change on infrastructure, operations. Situated in a tropical region, the Guiana Space Centre (CSG) may be increasingly influenced by evolving climate patterns over the coming decades. Anticipating potential changes—such as shifts in rainfall intensity, sea level trends, and humidity— will be essential to ensure the long-term resilience and operational continuity of the site (2040-2050 Horizon).

Objectives:

• identify key climate hazards likely to affect the CSG in the medium to long term: you will conduct a literature review and data analysis to identify climate hazards relevant to the Guiana region, including projected changes in temperatures/precipitation patterns/humidity, weather events, sea level rise, etc.;
• evaluate sensitivity of key CSG assets and operations to the identified hazards;
• perform a benchmark with other spaceports;
• develop a climate risk map.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French.

Due to the nature of this position, native-level proficiency in French to interface with our CSG partners is required, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.

Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.
