You have:

  • Enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (master's or higher).
  • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and must start the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program.
  • Fluent in English and the working language of the duty station.
  • Prior experience in data collection and analysis in the field of social or economic development fields.
  • Knowledge of statistical software like R/SPSS/STATA.
  • Good command of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based applications.
  • Strong sense of collaborative work and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills.

Background

UNDP operates in 177 countries, where it works with local governments to meet development challenges and develop local capacity. It works internationally to help countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP was one of the main UN agencies involved in the development of the Post-2015 Development Agenda. To accomplish the SDGs and encourage global development, UNDP focuses on poverty reduction, democratic governance, energy and environment, social development, and crisis prevention and recovery. UNDP has worked in India since 1951 in almost all areas of human development, from systems and institutional strengthening to inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods, as well as sustainable energy, environment, and resilience.

The Government of India is committed to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and leaving no one behind. UNDP has initiated active support to several state governments in mainstreaming SDGs within their schemes and programmes as a part of an overall support to SDG roll out for visioning and planning. With the launch of NITI Aayog’s SDG India Index every year and the recently released Northeastern Region Sustainable Development Goals Index last year, it becomes crucial to monitor the performance of the state on the SDGs at the state and regional level. In order to fulfill Agenda 2030, State governments require policy inputs and support in planning, capacity building and monitoring the SDGs. UNDP has been supporting the central and state governments in preparation of various Indices and reports to fast-track the SDG agenda. As a part of this agenda, UNDP would like to onboard an intern for extending support to the State Outreach and Integration Unit of UNDP for providing assistance in the area of data collection, analysis and policy documentation for the preparation of UNDP’s knowledge products and reports. The intern will work under the supervision of the Regional Head, Northeast Region or a designated official.

Duties and Responsibilities

Prime responsibilities of the intern include the following:

• Coordination with all Northeast States for collection of data for preparation of Northeast SDG Index. • Assist in data analysis of collected data for Northeast SDG Index. • Analysis and interpretation of data collected and preparation of write ups • Assist in development of knowledge products based on data collected. • Collate and create tracker on state-wise weekly data capturing. • Document and prepare briefs on the progress of project activities, minutes of meetings and outcome papers. • Provide support for organizing consultations (online/offline) with relevant stakeholders and prepare background material and assist in capacity building exercises. • Assist in development of communication materials for amplifying project activities. • Any other related task assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent); (c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; (d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Candidate having degree/pursuing in Statistics/Social Sciences/Public Policy/Development Studies/Economics /Data Sciences or relevant degree preferred.
