You have:
- Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level).
- Studying for a Master's degree in Translation in a Chinese language university or translation school will be an advantage.
- Be computer literate in standard software applications.
- Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
- Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
- Fluency in spoken and written Chinese is required as the main language of education.
- Fluency in English, required as the source language of the Translation Diploma.
- Knowledge of an additional official United Nations language is an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time - 40 hours). The intern will be operating as part of the Chinese Translation Section (CTS) of CMS at UNOV, under the general guidance of the Chief of Section. The intern will learn about and familiarize themselves with the subject matters dealt with by CTS in its daily translation work with the guidance of its experienced translators and revisers; learn and develop skills and general techniques, including desktop publishing skills, through participation and practice in document translation/desktop publishing. The Intern will carry out the following activities: • Practice and upgrade general capabilities and specific skills in the use of various translation apps terminology database, especially eLuna with all its important features and functionalities. • Learn and perform tasks related to the work of the Chinese Desktop Publishing Team (CDPT) under the supervision of the Supervisor of the Team, as instructed by the Chief of Section.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). For this particular internship position, studying for a Master's degree in Translation in a Chinese language university or translation school will be an advantage (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION). • Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Chinese, which should be the candidate's main language of education and target language of the Translation Diploma, as well as in English, which should be the source language of the Translation Diploma, is required. Knowledge of an additional official United Nations language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
