Organizational Setting

The key mission of the FAO Representation in Somalia, which is led by FAO Representative (FAOR), is to assist and support the national government to develop policies, strategies and programme aimed at accelerating the Implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in FAO's global mandate and Strategic Objectives. More specifically, FAO's response aims to address national needs and priorities in achieving food security, reducing hunger and malnutrition, developing agricultural, fishery and forestry sectors, and ensuring the sustainable use of environmental and natural resources and respond to recurrent emergencies. The current portfolio of activities of the FAO Representation in Somalia includes a wide scope of technical support interventions ranging from policy support through livestock and crop production, to natural resource management, Nutrition, value chain, food security analysis and water and land information management. FAO is also implementing several emergency, resilience-building, and development interventions, with the support of its five field offices and close to 400 staff in partnership with the Federal and State line ministries.

Reporting Lines

The position is under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Somalia, the role directly reports to Information and Knowledge Management team leader and will work closely with the SWALIM team at FAO.

Technical Focus

The Information Visualization and Communication Analyst is responsible for supporting the SWALIM team in development of information products, update of information systems, presentation, and dissemination of SWALIM information products and services, and for engagement with SWALIM stakeholders including Somali ministries and other partners.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Support the design, planning and organization of information and knowledge management products including SWALIM reports and bulletins. • Collate information and develop appropriate digital assets, in line with global FAO key messages, terminology, standards and guidelines, and day-to-day management of thematic/regional/country social media channel(s), {add account handles and/or URLs}, as per the FAO social media guidelines and in support of country/regional/global strategies, liaising and coordinating with the relevant technical officers, Regional Communication Officers (RCO) and OCC, as appropriate, and relevant supervisor for clearance. • For videos intended for use on social media channels, liaise with RCO and OCC to review scripts, formats and final clearances. • Adapt into {local language} digital assets to ensure maximum reach and amplification via social channels. • Ensure that all communication products comply with global FAO key messages, terminology, standards, and guidelines. • Maintain regular coordination with RCO and OCC, including to ensure key messages, outputs and products are shared via global multilingual channels, as appropriate. • Monitor social media for results, compliance with guidelines, trends and risks, in consultation with RCO and OCC, as appropriate. • Provide monthly engagement reports with key performance indicators. • Prepare a monthly social media content calendar with innovative and issue-focused content to promote the work of FAO. • Participate in the development and implementation of thematic/country/regional/divisional communications plans for campaigns or key priorities such as the World Food Day, International Year, Four Betters, etc. • Support digital marketing, including by identifying, vetting and liaising with digital influencers, in close collaboration with RCO and OCC • Design and produce SWALIM engaging and informative visualizations, including video documentaries, charts, graphs, maps, infographics, news articles, web features, newsletters, and publications for online platforms. • Work with the technical teams to translate SWALIM complex data and publications into compelling visual stories and assist in their dissemination to the public. • Conduct research on land and water data visualization best practices and emerging trends and apply them to SWALIM’s products. • Support the update of SWALIM online databases, information systems and catalogues including the project website www.faoswalim.org, Flood risk and response Information Management System (FRRIMS) in conformity with the FAO standards and requirements and guarantee optimum functionality and smooth operation. • Support the design, production and dissemination of SWALIM information and knowledge materials (including technical reports, newsletters, bulletins, news briefs, posters and banners) in consultation with the FAO communications officer. • Engage in active marketing, promotion and support of SWALIM information products and services to users including UN agencies, international and local NGOs, Academic Institutions and community-based organizations. • Support the management of the SWALIM client platform and monitor access to and use of SWALIM products and services, responding to client needs and collecting user feedback • Support the line ministry capacity development activities including trainings and LoA/LoU’s management and procurement processes.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree in information systems, communication or any other relevant field from a recognized institution. • At least 3 years of previous experience in communication, information management. Prior work experience with complex emergencies would be a distinct advantage. • Working knowledge (level C) of English and Somali • Nationals of Somalia.
