Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Service Design and Provisioning Team (SDP), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna /United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNOV/UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The Information Technology Assistant (Team Leader) will report to the Chief, ITS.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Information Technology Assistant (Team Leader) will be responsible for activities involving both technical and administrative competence, including the following specific duties:

  • Act as T2 administrator of O365 for UNOV/UNODC and all other VIC based entities managed by UNOV/UNODC.
  • Deploy applications in the O-365 environment as required.
  • Coordinate rollout of updates and fixes for operating systems and standard office software on UNOV/UNODC computers.
  • Oversee deployment and support of mobile devices and new laptops/workstations.
  • Work on plans to improve standard software rollouts and timely alignment with supported software versions and ensure their implementation; ensure tracking of the plan, monitor and analyse implementation.
  • Identify issues to be addressed and propose corrective actions.
  • Coordinate support for conference services related to equipment for recording and streaming.
  • Coordinate and provide IT support for different meeting options of UNOV/UNODC including video conferences, Webex meetings and Microsoft meetings/Live events.
  • Coordinate IT procurement of items falling into the area of the Service Design and Provisioning Team including providing technical advice to UNODC Field Offices.
  • Coordinate the team activities and guide and supervise the Service Design and Provisioning Team.
  • Supervise the work of the Service Design and Provisioning Team (SDP). Distribute work assignments to team members and monitor progress.
  • Provide guidance and training to new/junior staff.
  • Perform other work-related duties as may be required.

    Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplemental courses/technical certificate in IT, certification in O365, Lotus Domino and Notes technologies is desirable.

    Job - Specific Qualification Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite, i.e. is required, for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application. The GGST is a proctored entry-level examination at the duty station. Any travel expenses incurred in order to take the examination are the responsibility of the candidate and will not be reimbursed by the Organization. Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

    Work Experience A minimum of ten years of relevant and progressively responsible technical experience in server and client services design, implementation and maintenance, is required.

    Several years of hands-on experience in designing, implementing and maintaining medium to large scale core messaging systems using client/server architecture based on IBM Lotus Notes and Domino are required

    Several years of working experience in administering Lotus Domino servers (in several separate domains) running on Linux and Windows operating systems are required.

    Working experience in the UN specific O365 add-ons like user account, shared mailboxes, and access list maintenance tools in iNeed Service is desirable.

    Several years as 2nd level support for O365 products (Outlook and MS Teams) especially administering these products using MS PowerShell, are required.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

    Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a technical test and a competency-based interview.

    Special Notice This position is temporarily available for 6 months. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.

While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post.
