Org. Setting and Reporting These three(3) positions are located in the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) of the Division of administration at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The incumbents report to Personal Computing Team and under direct supervision of the Chief of Personal Computing Unit.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Chief of Personal Computing Unit, the incumbent will be responsible of the following duties :

End User Devices Administration and Configuration: - Develops End User Devices images for standard configurations of Computing Environments; - Assists in monitoring personal computers running the UN software delivery system to ensure that software distributions are being delivered correctly; - Assists in performing software distribution updates, scripting, testing and support; - Maintains and updates technical documentation for desktop management software.

Service Installation and Support: - Receives and logs problem calls or service requests in the automated tracking system with minimum delay; - Attempts to resolve as many problem calls or service requests on initial contact; - Performs tasks related to scheduled service requests, including equipment replacement, equipment installation/de-installation, software installation, LAN connection, returns to stock, site surveys, etc; - Diagnoses and resolves any hardware, software, or connectivity problem with minimum Delay; - Provides basic training to end-users on the use of standard systems and applications; - Drafts end-user and/or technical documentation; - Logs all actions in the automated tracking system, including site survey information, steps taken to resolve problem or to complete task, problems encountered, current status, etc.; - Acts as problem escalation point for technical staff at lower levels; - Escalates problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure; - Detects problem patterns and recommend solutions; - Provide technical advice to clients when necessary; - Keeps abreast of developments in technology both in the UN and in the industry in general; - Provides guidance and training to new/junior staff; - Performs other related duties as required.

    Education High school diploma or equivalent.

    Work Experience At least three (3) years of experience in an IT environment, including strong knowledge of imagine devices and helpdesk support is required.

    Experience with iNeed system is desirable.

    Experience with Microsoft Administrative Tools (SCCM, Active Directory, Print Management and etc.) is desirable.

    Experience with Microsoft Office 365 Products and their support is desirable.

    Experience with International and High Level Conference setup and support is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages in the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English or French is required; knowledge of the other is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

    Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

    Special Notice - These three temporary positions are intended to fill the functions for a period of 364 days with an estimated start date 01 January 2022.

  • These positions are subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.
  • Candidates should have no expectation of any fixed-term appointment possibility after the end of this temporary assignment.
  • If the selected candidate is an internal staff member of the UN Secretariat, the selection will be recorded as a temporary assignment.
  • Subsequent to the initial temporary appointment, new and successive temporary appointments may be granted for service in the same office or in a different office any number of times, for any duration, provided that the length of service does not exceed the period of 364 calendar days.
  • Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application. Staff members who were granted a fixed-term, continuing or permanent appointment as a result of having passed a predecessor test recognized by the Office of Human Resources Management, and who have continuously held such appointments, are not required to take the new test.

When a qualified internal staff member cannot be identified, the hiring manager may submit a request for an exception for selecting an external candidate (including a staff member holding a temporary appointment). Such requests must be substantiated and submitted to the respective Recruitment focal point who in turn will review for transmittal to OHRM.
  • In addition, all new entry-level recruitment in the General Service and related categories, for positions at the GS-4/TC-3/S-2/ PIA I levels and below, irrespective of the source of funding, will only be granted Temporary Appointments. Vacancies at these levels are open to both internal and external candidates, including staff members on temporary appointments. However, priority consideration will be given to serving staff members holding Fixed-Term Appointments followed by those holding Temporary Appointments. New external candidates will only be considered when a serving staff member holding a Fixed-Term or Temporary Appointment cannot be identified. Selection of a new external candidate requires the approval of OHRM. No entry level Fixed-Term Appointments will be granted to new external candidates.
  • While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post. An external candidate selected for this position is bound by the prevailing condition of the staff selection system under ST/AI/2010/3, as amended, and ST/AI/2010/4/Rev.1.
