Result of Service The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), delivers global messages on the work of the United Nations to audiences in 19i territories of the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. UNICs are responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to a local audience; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves. To support this work, the UNIC requires an Information Assistant to strengthen the information services platforms it manages in the Caribbean.

Work Location Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago

Expected duration Duration of the entire contract period of 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities The incumbent will fulfill the following responsibilities: - Drafting, editing and uploading text on UNIC online platforms – website, regional portal and social media accounts. - Designing, preparing material for, and coordinating production of online campaigns on UN priority communications issues, (eg. COVID-19 response, Verified, Climate Action, SDG Decade of Action). - Preparing (interviewing, researching, and drafting) features, articles and stories on the activities of the UN in the Caribbean, and uploading these on UNIC online platforms. - Designing, producing and uploading graphic material on online platforms. - Participating in consultations and editorial meetings on development and maintenance of UNIC online platforms and maintaining records of these meetings. - Troubleshooting technical malfunctions at website and web portal. - Leading technical production of UNIC activities and events. - Monitoring, collating statistics, and reporting on analytical data for online platforms. - Responding to phone and online queries from UNIC audiences, stakeholders and other clients, including on UN library and other information resources. - Liaising with UNIC partners on collaborative activities. - Providing research and drafting support for development of UNIC material and implementation of outreach projects.

Qualifications/special skills Skills: ~ Strong writing, research and editing skills ~ Ability to take initiative and work independently ~ Strong planning and organising skills ~ Commitment to professionalism, integrity and respect for diversity Academic Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: At least three years of experience in public communications, website production, social media content management or a related area is required. Computer software proficiency in web development, word processing, graphics applications and CMS website maintenance is required. Experience in social media account maintenance and community management is required. Experience researching and writing for online platforms is desirable. Language: English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable.

Additional Information The Contractor will work under the supervision of the Centre’s National Information Officer Project: Strengthening of UN’s information services platform in the Caribbean Office: United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean Area
