UNOPS-ETMCO is recruiting for this position: ICT Senior Associate, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Qualified women (female) candidates are encouraged to apply.

Under the direct supervision of the ICT Officer, who reports to the Head of Support Services, and technical guidance of the ICT colleagues in HQ, the ICT Senior Associate is responsible for providing efficient and effective ICT management and support to the UNOPS ETMCO Office in Ethiopia. In the discharge of her/his duties, the ICT Senior Associate liaises with UNOPS Programme, Operations and project teams in the Ethiopia Multi-country office and UNOPS HQ staff in order to ensure best support.

Under the direct supervision of the ICT Officer, the ICT Senior Associate will be responsible for the following summary of functions:

  1. ICT client services, management and administration
  2. Server and Network Administration
  3. Knowledge building and knowledge sharing
  4. ICT Maintenance

1. ICT client services, management and administration

Ensure efficient and effective ICT client services, management and administration, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Lead and support the helpdesk team on the installation and configuration of ICT-related hardware/software and provide technical support on standard software and various UNOPS customized systems.
  • Implementation of ICT and operational strategies compliant with UNOPS rules, regulations, policies and framework.
  • Lead the helpdesk team on the provision of fast, friendly, and effective user support.
  • Participation in the development of ICT standards and strategies.
  • Maintenance of inventory of all computers, telecommunication equipment, I/O devices and software existent in the Business Unit ensuring compliance with registration and upgrades.
  • Interaction with HQ and ICT personnel from other UN agencies in the area to share and exchange information and expertise on applications and tools.
  • Ensuring the providing for meeting/event ICT facilities setup such as audio system, video conferencing system, etc
  • Provision of consulting services, ICT audit inspections and/or facilitation of selection/deployment of software to projects, seeking technical advice and support from HQ ICT personnel, as required.
  • Report and assist the ICT officer to ensure continuous improvement of the ICT team and to deliver an efficient and client-oriented approach to technical support services to all users.
  • Participate in procurement of ICT-related hardware and software

    2. Ensures efficient network administration, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Maintenance of network and internet connectivity to ensure stable operation, availability of bandwidth, and reliable connection to the internet and HQ-based systems.

  • Valid hardware maintenance agreements, to ensure timely resolution of hardware failures.
  • A stable and responsive network environment based on daily monitoring of the network connection.
  • Ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of UNOPS ICT systems and UNOPS information assets.
  • Monitor and maintain proper backups of UNOPS data. Maintenance of measures in place for business continuity and disaster recovery processes and procedures Maintenance of video conference and telephony operations

3. Knowledge building and Knowledge sharing

  • Training and guidance to users in the efficient and secure use of ICT systems and services
  • Advice to management, clients and colleagues on subject matter expertise
  • Synthesis and dissemination of best practices to internal collaborators and network

    4. ICT Maintenance

  • Effective functioning (installation, operation and maintenance) of all UNOPS hardware equipment and acquisition of hardware supplies.

  • Conduct regular maintenance of ICT infrastructure equipment.
  • Ensure running condition of all ICT-related equipment through timely repair and maintenance.
  • Ensure frequently required ICT spare parts/stocks and consumables are available in stock at any time.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

    Impacts of results The ICT Senior Associate will impact the overall efficiency of the multi-country office in ICT management, technical stability and reliability of the installed systems and success in introduction and implementation of ICT strategies and policies. Appropriate delivery of services ensures client satisfaction and enhances credibility of UNOPS as an effective and efficient organization in the ICT sector.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • A First level University degree (BSC Degree) in Information Sciences, Information Technology Computer Sciences, Telecommunications or Engineering is an asset but not required.

Certifications - Cisco CCNA, CompTIA A+ certification or Equivalent is added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of seven (7) for secondary school completion and three (3) years for Bachelor's Degree relevant experience in the field of Information Technology and/or Telecommunications and Systems, preferably in an international environment is required.
  • Experience in management of Active Directory, Windows servers, and network infrastructure is advantage.
  • Experience in the usage of Google Work Space, Google Admin console and related tools is advantage.
  • Experience working on network infrastructure, computer systems security, and LAN/VLAN is an asset.

  • Experience/knowledge of Google Suite products is an asset.

  • Experience in working with a range of stakeholders in developing countries is an advantage.
  • Some experience in UN system organizations is desirable.
  • Experience in use of Enterprise systems including OneUNOPS is desirable

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset
