The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. UNOPS supports partners to build a better future by providing services that increase the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of peace building, humanitarian and development projects. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organizations.

Project Background:

The Mozambique Northern Crisis Recovery Project is based in and around the City of Pemba in Cabo Delgado Province supporting the resettlement of IDPs from temporary settlement sites to 20 relocation sites. The project will support both IDPs and Host communities. The project comprises of 4 main components:

Component 1: psychosocial social support and community peace building; and enhancing state-society trust and confidence.

Component 2: provision of agriculture and fisheries inputs, cash for work programs for youth and women and the provision of kits for micro and small business development; and training on entrepreneurship and business management.

Component 3: the restoration of basic services, small works for agriculture production, education and health infrastructure and the construction or rehabilitation of school and health infrastructure and community services and amenities in temporary and relocation sites and host communities.

Component 4: strengthening of technical capacity of government authorities and local governments for conflict management. This component will also support project implementation, financial management, procurement, safeguards, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation.

The project is implemented in collaboration with government authorities and will be guided by the various programme guidelines provided by the World bank- as the funding source.

The project team is expected to contain management staff, Safeguards and Monitoring and Evaluation staff and infrastructure staff and will require significant stakeholder and partner coordination and management.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Supply Chain Management Senior Officer, the ICT Support Assistant supports information technology-related services and functions for UNOPS in managing its operations. In the discharge of her/his duties, the ICT Support Assistant liaises with UNOPS Programme Support Officers, Programme Managers and Project Assistants to ensure best support

Functional Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot hardware problems in Desktops PCs, laptops, Printers, UPS, scanners and other computer related equipment and all categories of general ICT Helpdesk tasks requested by users.
  • Network troubleshooting, handling configuration of new PC for the settings of the domain network and responding to user needs and questions regarding network access.
  • Work as first line Helpdesk staff in providing IT support and attending to end-users requests and problems.
  • Configure and install software on new computers and laptops on arrival and co-ordinate with ICT Associate in the resolution process of problems.
  • Provide technical support to Finance/Administration units in analyzing and processing telephone and other telecommunication bills.
  • Installation of hardware, network connections, cables and provide assistance to users for LAN and Desktop access.
  • Provision of support in Conference rooms (Assisting with on-line meetings ,interviews etc.)
  • Provide application software support for management in preparation of presentations ,reports etc.
  • Procurement of urgent and regular day to day needs of IT equipment and consumables.
  • Keeping and maintaining the updated inventory of all the ICT equipment and all other assets, software licenses and generation of reports for audit purposes. Manage and continuously update the asset register while ensuring all assets are tagged.
  • Keeping records of the expiration of the warranties and coordinating with vendors for annual maintenance contracts, if necessary.
  • Performance of maintenance and minor repairs on hardware equipment and liaise with external companies to repair and maintain equipment that cannot be maintained in-house.
  • Support on Google Workspace, which includes Gmail business email, Docs word processing, Drive cloud storage, Calendar shareable calendars, Meet video conferencing and more

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Secondary education is required.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer sciences or other related is desirable

Experience

  • Five years of working experience in the field of Information Technology and or telecommunication is required
  • Experience of serving within the UN system or international organization will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN/WLAN configurations is required
  • Sound organizational skills is an asset.
  • Analytical skills to identify and troubleshoot technical issues are an asset.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace and other related software is an asset.

Language - Full working knowledge of English and Portuguese is required.
