This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

UN House located in Almaty is managed by the Common Premises Team which is responsible for provision of maintenance services and support to UN Agencies located in the Premises. Within the Common Premises infrastructure, the ICT Unit is responsible for provision of ICT support to UN Agencies. Under direct supervision of the UNDP ICT Analyst and UN CP Common Premises Manager, the ICT Assistant provides daily technical support to users of information management tools and technology infrastructure, maintains the LAN system, PABX telephone station, and supports the UN web-sites.

The ICT Assistant promotes a client-oriented approach in provision of all services.

Under the direct supervision of the UNDP ICT Analyst and the Common Premises Manager, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:

• Provide helpdesk support to the users of information technologies located in the UN House; • Provide advisory support on hardware and software requirements to the tenants of the UN House; • Assistance with minor repairs; • Assistance with maintenance of telecommunications equipment used in the UN House; • Assistance in LAN administration; • Initiate procurement of required ICT equipment; • Managing e-mail accounts and groups; • Maintenance of UNDP hardware and software; • Promote and implement Green ICT Technologies; • Support ICT knowledge sharing and learning for users; • Provide inputs to the UNDP administrative business processes mapping and implementation of the internal standard operating procedures (SOPs); • Provide inputs to preparation of results-oriented work plans; • Other tasks as required.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

/ with an ability to operate and maintain network, computer, telecommunication and other office equipment. • Ability to provide ICT support services. • Advanced knowledge of MS Windows OS products, MS 365 products, Mac OS, mobile OS (Android, IOS), and corporate ICT security. • Good knowledge and experience in LAN architecture. • Basic skills in web-development and content management. • Knowledge of programming (Python, Java, PHP, etc.), scripting (PowerShell) and MS Power platform will be an asset.

Bachelor’s degree in information technologies or relevant technical science is preferred.

As of February 2024, National UN Volunteer Specialists in Tashkent are entitled to USD 1104/month as their Volunteer Living Allowance. Other benefits include:

  1. Pre-assignment: Entry lump sum - USD 400 (one time payment). Relocation costs: $200 at beginning and end of assignment if duty station is outside of commuting distance (as determined by UNV).

  2. During assignment Volunteer living allowance - USD 1104.24 (as mentioned above). Learning - Access to UNV's learning and career development resources. Annual leave - 2.5 days per month. Insurance - Comprehensive coverage for health, life and malicious acts for the UN Volunteer and health insurance coverage for up to 3 eligible dependents .   3. End of assignment Exit allowance (paid on successful completion of the assignment) for each month served, paid on completion of contract.
