Overview

Develop and maintain high-quality web applications and tools.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Maths, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Statistics is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of professional work experience as Web Developer or similar role is required.
  • Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery) is required.
  • Excellent Knowledge of Angular Framework is required.
  • Knowledge of React frameworks is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NodeJS is desirable.
  • Hands on experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes is required.
  • Knowledge of back-end languages (C#, Python) is required.
  • Familiarity with databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB) and web servers (IIS, Apache) is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

Background: Within the framework of the ICTS section’s commitment tp expanding and enhancing ESCWA’s technological capabilities, substantial investments have been made in a range of initiatives and projects. These encompass data management, piplines, vsiaulization, analytics, machine learning and web development. Within this context, the role of the Data-Driven Web Developer will be to support the development and upkeep of ESCWA’s online applications and portals. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the overall guidance of the Chief, ICTS, and direct supervision by the team leader, the contractor will work on developing and maintaining ESCWA online Policy tools . In particular, the candidate will perform the following tasks: • Design and develop highly scalable and reliable backend systems. • Design and maintain high-performance databases using PostgreSQL or MS SQL Server or MySQL. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software products. • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to software development best practices. • Continuously learn and stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends.

Qualifications/special skills

A Bachelor’s degree in Maths , Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Statistics is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery is required. Excellent Knowledge of Angular Framework is required. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
