The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The ICRC ICT division is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting ICT solutions for more than 20'000 of its employees worldwide.

The Belgrade Shared Services Center (BSSC) was created to provide a 24x7 ICT support service to the ICRC worldwide operations and is currently looking for suitable candidates to fill the position of Hybrid Cloud Engineer.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Operating Systems: based on specifications provided by the ECOS (Edge Computing & Operating System) Product team, deliver server deployment capabilities (workflows, infrastructure-as-code, approvals, self-services) through automation across any Hybrid Cloud implementation (Datacenter, Public Cloud, and Field Infrastructure).
  • Automation: continuously improve and transform the existing automation platform (vRealize Automation, vRealize Orchestrator, AWX/Ansible, Packer, ServiceNow).
  • Patterns and best practices: collaborate with the team to define target automation patterns and best practices. Ensure all automation clients (IT and Application teams) adhere to these standards for consistency and standardization.
  • Operations: empower infrastructure and applications teams to innovate by automating repetitive operational tasks. Focus on providing automation that supports their diverse operational activities.
  • Collaboration and support: work closely with the T&I Product team, offering high-level technical support, best practices, and guidance on new automation initiatives.
  • Security and compliance: ensure that all automation efforts comply with organizational security policies and industry best practices. Address security concerns related to normal operations, including data protection and access control.
  • Knowledge sharing and documentation: document automation processes and share knowledge with team members. Develop training materials and conduct sessions to upskill teams on new automation technologies.
  • Anticipates needs, provides orientation on the technologies used in the product under responsibility of the Product Owner of the Automation product.
  • Ensures automation guidelines are respected by the clients of the Automation product.
  • Part of the Agile Product Team, employ agile practices and participate to the technical delivery.
  • Contributes to the overall product strategy and roadmap in relation with the T&I Technology Manager.
  • Ensures a good collaboration with all the T&I teams involved with automation.
  • Makes proposals for new standards or solutions to improve automation landscape.
  • Identifies, anticipates, and documents automation opportunities along with the Product Owner.

Relationships

  • Internally, interacts with staff in all ICT units, particularly the ICT Security Expert and the Change Advisers.
  • Externally, interacts with ICT service providers and suppliers, the UN, other international organizations and NGOs.

Professional Experience required / Certifications / Education required

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the IT field, with a minimum 3 years of System administration in Microsoft environment.
  • Proficient in Windows 2016/19/22 and Linux/RHEL7/8/9 administration.
  • Communication and collaboration: Excellent communication skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams, local and remote. Strong ability to guide and support teams both in operations and next evolutions.
  • Professional qualities: Demonstrated commitment to professional development, continuous learning and adopting new technologies. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and new technological landscapes.
  • Good knowledge of the English language (written and spoken)

Assets

  • Proven experience with VMware capabilities and applications administration
  • Scripting (Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Experience with Azure, OpenShift, VMware, Red Hat 8..
  • Knowledge of scripting (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Packer, etc.) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of Orchestration tools (Service Now Automation Engine, vRealize Automation, etc.)
  • Agile methodology: Experience using Microsoft TFS/Azure DevOps, particularly the management of PBI (creation, follow-up and review).
