The assignment is part of UNFPA Malawi's initiatives to enhance the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of adolescents and youth by improving access to quality services including family planning, education, and gender-based violence prevention and response. For the realisation of SRHR even during emergencies, the UN Youth Volunteer will work very closely with the Humanitarian Coordinator, Emergency Preparedness Team/ Crisis Response Team on the emergency preparedness, contingency planning and humanitarian crisis response in case of emergency.

Under the overall Supervision UNFPA Representative and direct supervision of Deputy Representative/ Head of Programme, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

● Supports Humanitarian Coordinator on the organisation of Emergency Preparedness Team meetings and in case of emergency Crisis response Team meetings (formulation of agenda, sharing the invitations, taking notes and finalization of meeting minutes, tracking the implementation of meeting action points);

● Contributes to the updating of Country Office Annual Preparedness Plan and its aligning with the Business Continuity Plan;

● Proactively participating in all stages of contingency planning by addressing to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (namely rolling out of Minimum Initial Service Package - MISP - for Sexual and Reproductive Health in emergency settings), sexual and reproductive health and rights, and Gender-based Violence (GBV) prevention and response (rolling out of GBV in Emergency minimum standards).

● Supports the implementation of contingency plan for the strengthening of focus districts’ readiness as well as provision of humanitarian response at the district level;

● Supports the development of SRHR-related educational and information materials and outreach strategies for youth engagement.

● Assists in organizing workshops and training sessions for peer educators, other Youth groups, and community health workers.

● Participates in monitoring and evaluation activities, including data collection and reporting.

● Supports communication efforts, including social media campaigns and documentation of best practices, impact and achievements of UNFPA using infographics.

● Engages with local communities to promote awareness and advocacy on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

● Perform any other duties as directed

or demonstrated interest in sexual reproductive health and rights, including adolescent sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention. Gender equality/ GBV prevention and response and eliminating of harmful practices against adolescent girls and young women. Emergency preparedness and humanitarian response programming.

Malawi continues to enjoy a stable and democratic government and has no major security problem. The major languages are English and Chichewa. Living conditions in all the major cities are modest with all basic supplies available. Appropriate health services and international schools are available in Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu and Zomba. Malaria is prevalent throughout the country. Social infrastructure can be found in all the major cities. The UN Volunteer will be based in the capital of the country, Lilongwe. Conditions in Lilongwe are good and has appropriate health services. Housing in Lilongwe varies and it is possible to rent apartments in safe areas.

UNFPA Country Office will support in the booking of hotel rooms for the first nights, while assisting in getting permanent accommodation. The UNV will identify their own accommodation in consultation with UNDSS on which areas are recommended for UN Volunteers.
