Duties and Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and duties may include but are not limited to: • Support the monitoring, analysis, and reporting on humanitarian action or disaster. • Supports advocacy initiatives on issues related to humanitarian needs through the collection of information, liaison with humanitarian partners, government officials, the media, etc. • Actively engages in working groups, meetings, conferences, and consultations with other agencies and partners on humanitarian and emergency response matters. • Assisting in the daily work of the office including the development of road map, and coordination with other branches of OCHA. • provision of operations and logistics support • contributes to the various reports, documents and communications, e.g. drafts sections of surveys, background papers, parliamentary documents, briefings, case studies, presentations, correspondence, taking notes, talking points, etc. • Prepare information materials for humanitarian advocacy and sharing with other partners. • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

The applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). The University degree must be in the area of political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, law, human sciences, earth sciences or in a related field. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is desirable.
