- English is required. Either French or Arabic or Russian or Chinese (Mandarin) or Spanish is desirable.
- Conduct studies, research, analyses and surveys to address appropriate policies and levels relating to salaries, allowances and benefits of United Nations common system staff.
- Excellent drafting skills, IT knowledge, analysis of implications of proposed modifications to the allowances and benefit system, good knowledge of salary systems and practices in the United Nations Common System required.

This position is located in the Salaries and Allowance Division of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC). Compensation Officer reports to the Division Chief.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position, in support of the work of the ICSC and the Salaries and Allowances Division, lies in conducting of studies, research, analyses and surveys to address appropriate policies and levels relating to salaries, allowances and benefits of United Nations common system staff. • Develop proposals and draft documentation on the revision or introduction of relevant policies based on studies and research for the submission to the Commission in regular sessions. If required, also present these studies and policy recommendations directly to the Commission. • Plan, design and conduct detailed surveys on conditions of service for locally recruited staff at headquarters duty stations; establish plans and schedules for action; train Local Salary Survey Committees; provide guidance in the selection of employers and the collection of data; conduct data analysis; determine the relevant salary scale and make recommendations to the Commission for adoption. • Conduct comparisons of the net remuneration, total compensation and the level of allowances of Professional staff in the United Nations common system and the comparator civil service, as well as other national civil services and international organizations. • Conduct research of the existing policies and best compensation practices in the comparator civil service, other national civil services, international organizations and the private sector with a view of their possible application in the United Nations common system. • Participate and substantively support sessions of working groups and other meetings of the International Civil Service Commission in any of the areas of competence. • Represent the International Civil Service Commission at inter-agency meetings with authority to provide technical assistance, advice and guidance in any of the areas of competence.
