You have:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Strong knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS SharePoint.
  • Experience with building dashboards in Power BI is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience providing administrative support is desirable.
  • Prior experience in Human Resources Administration and statistics is an asset.
  • Experience in database management and archiving is also desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required for this internship.
  • Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

This internship announcement is valid for two (2) candidates who will intern in the Human Resources Management Unit, Executive Office, Department of Global Communications in New York. The Executive Office is responsible for all financial, personnel, information technology service and general administrative matters concerning the Department. Among its responsibilities is to coordinate the full range of staff and human resource issues, including performance appraisals, staff recruitment and promotion, training and career development, and personnel administration of staff ensuring consistency in the interpretation and application of the Staff Regulations and Rules and related personnel policies and directives. As an HR intern, you will support the DGC HRMU, with tasks including but not limited to: Data Management and Reporting: Assist in collecting, managing, and analyzing HR data for reporting purposes using tools such as Excel and Power BI. Prepare and deliver monthly staffing reports to division heads, highlighting trends in headcount, gender and geographic diversity, contract modalities, and vacancy trends. Provide monthly reports to division heads on the status of performance management and mandatory training completion. Assist the HR Officer in building the HR dashboards in Power BI. Support the HR Officer in analyzing data related to workplace well-being, staff engagement, and diversity and inclusion initiatives. Employee Relations and Communication: Assist in drafting internal communications related to HR processes. Monitor the completion of mandatory staff training and performance management reports. Administrative Support: Provide support with general administrative tasks and various ad-hoc HR duties as required. Assist in the preparation of HR-related reports, memos, and official correspondence.

Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study that is related to the type of internship is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.
