Assist clients with transportation and support in a health team setting.
You have:
- Strong interpersonal skills and interest in working with the refugee community
- Ownership of a car and a valid driver’s license and car insurance
- Willingness to transport clients in their personal vehicle
- Willingness to be flexible and accommodating to client needs
- Familiarity with the Charlottesville public transportation system or a willingness to familiarize oneself with it
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Attend Volunteer/Intern Orientation
•Provide transportation for clients and their families to medical, dental, and vision appointments.
•Develop and implement a transit orientation to familiarize clients with the available modes of public transportation they can use to attend medical, dental, and vision appointments.
•Assist Health Team with administrative tasks (phone calls, filing, collecting signed paperwork, making medical appointments, etc.)
•Assist clients on an as-needed basis (prescription assistance, medical bill assistance, etc.)
•Be sensitive to the cultural and personality differences of the refugee clients. Respect their beliefs and values, which may differ from yours.
•Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.

This position is unpaid and reports to the IRC Charlottesville’s Healthy Futures AmeriCorps Member.
