You will lead UNICEF’s cholera outbreaks preparedness and response at global level and engagement with global cholera multi partner coordination with IFRC, WHO, MSF and other relevant partners.

You will also manage the additional capacities for UNICEF as part of the global support team in IPC/WASH, outbreak analytics for cholera, RCCE and will work with partners and the UNICEF GOARN programme officer on GOARN deployments to support preparedness and response efforts.

In addition, you will work internally across the Organization to coordinate UNICEF’s Cholera response. They will monitor gaps in capacities and work with partners to consolidate needs and prioritize deployments.

How can you make a difference?

Major duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinate UNICEF’s cholera outbreak preparedness and response support team which includes functions related to, IPC/WASH, analytics for outbreaks RCCE, supply and logistics
  • Manage engagement with regions and countries on cholera response and the coordination within UNICEF across HQs including PG and technical leads, with SD, EMOPS, DGCA, PPD and PFP.
  • Brief UNICEF and partner senior management and monitor achievements against a global plan for preparedness and response. Produce a biweekly update to share across organization including update from partners
  • Support fundraising for cholera outbreak preparedness and response and work on advocacy and communication both for UNICEF and with partners.
  • Oversee cholera funds and reporting.
  • Co-Lead coordination at the global level with WHO, IFRC, MSF and partners leveraging existing coordination mechanisms such as the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN), the GTFCC and relevant clusters.
  • Co-Lead partner discussions on prioritization including of commodities and ensure that this is clearly communicated with UNICEF and partners and that UNICEF’s internal work on prioritization is well represented.
  • Coordinate and provide remote support, adaptation of guidance and or in country technical assistance based on need including providing/coordinating coaching to UNICEF field officers

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Public Health, Social Sciences, Public Administration or a related technical field is required.

  • A minimum of 8 (eight) years of professional work experience on PHE coordination, including in UNICEF is required.
  • Knowledge and experience working with GOARN and other partners and in coordinating cholera response is desirable.
  • Experience working at the global level is an asset.
  • Broad multisectoral knowledge in UNICEF programmes and UNICEF’s work in Public Health Emergencies is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and inter-personal skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
