This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The WHO Country Office in Bahrain provides technical support to the Member State to enhance national capacities to enable healthy setting environments for healthy living, at the country level to improve health and quality of life, promote healthy environments, and healthy lifestyles. The WHO Country Office incorporates social determinants of health and Health in All policies in alignment with the Joint WorkPlan (2022-23), WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean’s Department of Health Protection and Promotion, and Global Programme of Work (GPW13).

Under the direct supervision of the WHO Representative in Bahrain, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Collecting information from technical focal points in (MoH and Regional Office) involved in Healthy Cities, Health Promoting Schools and Universities, and other relevant health promotion programmes and developing relevant technical reports, advocacy materials and policy briefs accordingly • coordinating communication with relevant stakeholders and partners and organizing relevant meetings, missions, training and workshops • supporting community engagement and social listening utilizing WHO tools and relevant guidelines in coordination with the communication and technical team by supporting communication plans review and update • preparing briefing files, presentations, reports and other materials on various health promotion topics • contributing to reporting in line with WHO/UN reporting templates and platforms • drafting health promotion information products (articles, short stories, reports, etc.) based on the follow-up and developments in health promotion programs • participating in establishing and following up on the Healthy Settings Networks, as needed.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities; • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Health Promotion or Public Health, working experience with WHO, other UN agencies, or with an international nongovernmental organization is an asset.

• A Master’s degree in public health, health-related or relevant social sciences is desirable • Ability to produce quality health promotion materials in English and Arabic. • Excellent interpersonal skills and team-building. • Ability to work under pressure while producing results. • Knowledge or sound understanding of health promotion and familiarity with other relevant public health programmes. • Excellent presentation skills with a proven ability to write in English and Arabic in a clear and concise manner. • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge to relevant parties.
