THE OPPORTUNITY

Plan International Ghana is looking to recruit an experienced and qualified professional as its Head of Operations to take the lead in providing strategic direction to our operations in alignment with Plan's global principles, best practice and local business needs.The Head of Operations is responsible for leading, managing and developing a team of functional experts, including Finance, IT and Supply Chain to support the delivery of quality and integrated programmes in line with Plan International standards, frameworks and proceduresThis role is instrumental in driving the organization's mission and vision, and it reports directly to the Country Director, working closely with other key members of the Country Leadership Team (CLT).

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE

As the Head of Operations at Plan International Ghana, you will be a key member of the Country Management Team, reporting to the Country Director. The role encompasses the following responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive Oversight: You will manage and oversee all aspects of country operations, including Finance, ICT, logistics, Supply Chain, Security, asset management, and administration.
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the operations team, addressing significant operational challenges and fostering effective collaboration with various departments, including People & Culture, Programs, and field managers.
  • Support to Program Intervention: Offer technical oversight and support to Program Intervention and Influencing (PIIA) to manage risks and ensure compliance in cost-effective program delivery.
  • Policy and Compliance: Design and ensure compliance with internal organizational policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and country regulations.
  • Efficiency and Coordination: Efficiently organize and coordinate the Operations team, ensuring supply planning and proactive logistical support for project needs, adherence to donor and Plan International procedures, and upholding high ethical standards.
  • Performance and Compliance: Oversee team performance and compliance with Plan International's finance, IT, supply chain, legal, and counter-fraud management standards in Program Implementation Areas (district and project offices).
  • Financial Accountability: Responsible for the overall country budget and direct line management of the Country IT Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Country Accountant, and Grants Accountants, with dotted reporting lines for Program Impact and Influencing (PIIA) Accountants and grants project accountants.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Relevant academic qualification with at least a Master’s degree in associated fields –finance, business administration and management.
  • 7 plus years work experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in administration, business management and procurement process
  • Demonstrable knowledge as a result of education, training or practical experience on the key debates in development, particularly around child rights and Safeguarding.
  • Practical knowledge of operations supports for development;
  • Proficient in Microsoft office packages
  • Strong knowledge of the requirements of donors’ compliance and grants management;
  • Fluency in English, spoken and written;
  • Proven effective management skills leading teams across several sites and operating in a multi-cultural and matrix management structure
  • Ability to demonstrate and foster in team members a strong commitment to meeting the needs of other employees and managers for financial services
  • 8 to 10 years’ experience in a managerial role and at least 5 years in an International NGO
  • Ability to work under pressure
