Org. Setting and Reporting - Supervisor and Technical Guidance received:

Under the direct supervision of the Security Shift Supervisor, and Mobile Safety Officer and overall direction of the Head Guard/ Safety and Security Officer (SSO).

Responsibilities The incumbent : - Performs the following in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):

  • Screens all vehicles entering and exiting the premises;

  • Screens all pedestrians entering and exiting the premises; provides information, issues identification cards and directions to visitors;

  • Checks, reports and prevents weapons and or armed actors wishing from entering the UNRWA premises;

  • Maintains paper and computer log books, completes shift reports, incident reports and records;

  • Conducts foot-patrols for the purpose of identifying potential malfunction of physical security measures and intercepting unauthorized persons attempting to enter the premises; as well as potential security threats to the area of coverage;

  • Reports urgent issues to the his/her supervisor and documents all non urgent findings in the shift report;

  • Identifies individuals who remove UNRWA property to ensure that they have property removal permission (i.e. Load Note) and reports violators immediately;

  • Properly responds to medical incidents with First Aid;

  • Assists in facility evacuation drills, fire drills, emergency/incident response drills, mass casualty drills and readiness drills with local first responders; responds to fires in an appropriate manner; reports fire and safety violations/hazards to his/her supervisor, works and cooperates with assigned fire/floor wardens;

  • Correctly uses security equipment such as computers (Basic computer skills), x-ray machines (walk through and baggage screening equipment), CCTV, communications equipment, etc;

  • Maintains alertness for any potential or actual breaches of security, disturbances or unusual activity and reports these to his/her supervisor;

  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by her/his supervisor.

  • Professional and courteous attitude; ability to explain UNRWA security policies and procedures to UNRWA personnel and visitors;

  • Ability to work effectively in a stressful operational environment;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity including gender considerations ;

  • Basic working knowledge of computer hardware and software programmes;

  • Maintains a high sense of confidentiality.

    Education Successful completion of preparatory education;

    Work Experience Required at least one year of relevant experience of security guard’s duties in a recognized local business, governmental facility and/or international organization.

    Languages Working knowledge of English and fluency in Arabic.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: - Successful completion of Secondary and higher education; - Experience in UNRWA guard force, or any other UN agencies or Private Security Companies.

General Information: - This vacancy notice is open to internal and external candidates. Only candidates residing in Jordan, and within commuting distance of the duty station with authorization to work in the duty station at the time of application are eligible to apply. The Agency will not assume responsibility or accountability to support or facilitate the issuance of work permit in Jordan, and without a valid work permit, the appointment may be rescinded.

  • Since the Vacancy is an Area Staff post, the Agency will not provide coverage for relocation costs.
