Duties and Responsibilities Background, Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships:

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

UN-Habitat’s External Relations, Strategy, Knowledge and Innovation Division (ERSKI) is responsible for strategic planning, programmatic direction and operationalization of UN-Habitat's focal point role for the New Urban Agenda in the UN system; knowledge management, data and reporting; innovation; resource mobilization; and strategic partnerships.

Objective of the Consultancy This position is located in the Communications and Media Section located in the External Relations, Strategy and Innovation Division at the Nairobi duty station. The Communications and Media Section communicates UN-Habitat’s key messages to stakeholders and partners, creates awareness on urban issues and promotes UN-Habitat’s work and knowledge globally. Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Communication and the supervision of the Head of Production, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:

Responsibility

The consultant will provide design, layout and branding support for the High Level Meeting on the New Urban Agenda (HLM), and the UN-Habitat Annual Report 2021 including design of publications, collaterals, digital assets and exhibition displays.

Expected Outputs and Deliverables:

List of deliverables includes, but not limited to, branding, design and layout support for the following outputs:

1. Exhibition for UNEA5, HLM and Executive Board 2. HabPost corporate newsletter 3. Voluntary Local Reviews/SDG Localization branding, reports and collaterals. 4. Case studies, newsletters and reports for the Urban LEDS project 5. Web and Social media graphics for variety of channels to support corporate initiatives 6. Evaluation Reports for projects and programmes 7. Catalogue of Services English update and language versions

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design is required

Experience: - 5 years of relevant experience in graphic design including print, exhibition, mobile, web and data visualization is required. - A verifiable portfolio of graphic design work is required. - Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is required. - Ability to produce appealing visuals from complex data is required. - Knowledge of multimedia to develop a range of communication and information products desirable. - Knowledge of social media platforms and changing trends is desirable. - Detail-oriented, creative, ability to multi-task and work efficiently under tight deadlines is required. - Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment is desirable.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Skills: PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge of brand and graphic design processes and procedures for the creation and maintenance of high-quality visual standards and graphic material for varied media projects; knowledge of standard industry production processes, including multimedia, web, social media, and printing and digital publishing; creativity and ability to oversee and develop design that will advance the image and priorities of the UN; shows pride in work and in achievements; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is Motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations; establish effective collaboration and partnerships with officials at all levels inside and outside the organization.

PLANNING AND ORGANIZING: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

COMMUNICATION: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; Asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; Tailors language, tone, style and format to match the audience; Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed
