Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall guidance of the BI Hub’s Chief, the consultant will work closely with the communications and programme personnel of the Hub to produce the graphic designs of the communication material requested. In particular, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Transform text-based communications materials into visual graphic design materials such as infographics, brochures & backdrops.
  • Develop designs for communication materials based on the assignment brief. This includes and is not limited to digital communications and visibility products made by the BI Hub, including videos, presentations, infographics, factsheets, web articles, digital versions of posters, reports, visuals for social media campaigns, layout design for project reports.
  • Produce designs and layout templates for physical communications and visibility products produced by the BI Hub. This includes and is not limited to physical copies of certificates, posters, banners, folders, leaflets, reports, brochures, and handbooks.
  • Provide recommendations on the best and most relevant visual design style and materials suitable for the programme’s target audience.
  • Produce the deliverables in various formats, including for digital and print distribution, depending on the needs of the project.
  • Ensure data security and integrity.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • If and when any of the above services are required, the BI Hub and consultant will agree on work input, number of working days necessary and deadline prior to commencement of work. Detailed specifications for each individual assignment will be given to the selected designer as and when the designer’s services are requested.
  • For each agreed communications product assigned, the contractor will: o Design and layout the assigned communication product. o Submit the preliminary layouts for discussion with the BI Hub’s focal point. o Revise the selected layout as discussed with the BI Hub’s FP. o Submit a draft to the BI Hub for proofreading (up to two rounds of corrections to be covered under the agreement). o Ensure all corrections are inserted. o Obtain a final sign off from BI Hub before submitting electronic files to the printer. o Prepare the electronic files for the printer. o Send electronic files to the printer and liaise with the printer during the printing process, receive and mark up the final blueprint with final corrections from the BI Hub. o Make final corrections to the electronic file. o Create PDF from final electronic file for BI/OCT web posting. o If the project is to be done in multiple languages, the same proofreading procedure described above applies.

    Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree/diploma in any stream. Experience: Minimum of five years' experience in graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and colour management. Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design, including the use of design software such as Adobe Design Premium, In-Design, web design tools such as Adobe XD, Figma and Photoshop, among others. Language: English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
