This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that was established in 7 April 1948 and whose objective is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. WHO’s primary role is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system. WHO’s main areas of work are health systems; health through the life-course; noncommunicable and communicable diseases; preparedness, surveillance and response; and corporate services.

The purpose of this position is to coordinate and support WHO Country Office on the developing of all required digital materials and other relevant activities.

Under the direct supervision of the Public Health Specialist and the overall guidance of the WHO Representative, the Graphic Design Specialist will undertake the following duties, the UNV Graphic Design Specialist will: • Deliver creative and innovative ideas for print, electronic, web-based and animated presentations and designs; • Layout and design the reporting, information and communication materials (banners, posters, booklets, leaflets, books, calendars, bulletins, flyers, CD / DVD packaging, reports and infographics) for printing and electronic distribution; • Ensure design deliverables are following WHO guidelines, on brand and optimized per delivery channel (e.g. digital or print); • Improve and edit art-work, photos, charts and other graphic elements; and • Deliver creative graphic and technical solutions for use of new media (virtual 3D words/boxes, postcards). • Archive and share open artwork files, in addition to deliverables, in an organized and tracked system; • Any addition requirements jobs assigned by the supervisor.

A bachelor’s degree or Diploma, with qualification in Graphic Design or related field; • At least three years of strong practical background in graphic design, including the knowledge of Graphic Design Applications (such as Adobe Design Premium, In-Design, CorelDraw, web design tools such as Dreamweaver and Flash); • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management; • Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms; • Excellent verbal and written skills in English and Arabic; • Ability to provide examples of work undertaken; • Excellent communication (spoken and written) skills including the ability to convey complex information management concepts and recommendations to staff at all levels, both orally and in writing, in a clear, concise style that can be readily understood by non-information management practitioners; and • Ability to deliver high quality results on time; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness;

Muscat, the capital, is a peaceful city with over two million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily-available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Muscat. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Muscat is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Muscat have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Muscat is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Oman is a family duty station.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
