Organizational context UNHCR Global Themes and Events Unit The Global Themes and Events Unit manages UNHCR’s flagship events, including the UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award and World Refugee Day (WRD). The overall aim is to advocate for greater awareness and empathy for forcibly displaced people. Interns are thoroughly embedded in the team and tasked to deliver concrete elements on our key projects. Key responsibilities will include: • Support content production around the Nansen winners’ stories, specifically as it relates to background and contextual research, contributing ideas and coordination. • Assist in preparing for meetings with colleagues, funding partners, selection committee, etc. • Assist with the Nansen social media and overall communications strategy, contributing your experience and knowledge of relevant trends. • Assist with writing reports on past Nansen laureates and regional winners. • Assist with the planning of Nansen content-gathering missions. • Assist with logistical aspects of preparations for the 2025 Nansen nominations and ceremony. • Assist with other events and themes, as needed. • Serve as a support for maintaining files up to date. • Assist with notetaking at meetings. • Assist with archiving of key content. • Other ad-hoc tasks. The position UNHCR is looking for individuals with a wide range of skills and great interest in humanitarian action to support our work, specifically in support of its key events. Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience are required. Eligibility In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria: • Recent graduate (completed your studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate programme at a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to UNHCR’s work. The processing of incoming applications is carried out in collaboration with Oslo New University College and consideration for the position is dependent upon financial coverage.

Other qualifications Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in communications, advocacy or external relations. Knowledge of Photoshop, video-editing tools or an interest in learning them is an advantage. Key Skills • Excellent communication skills in English, including strong writing skills. • Required: English at B2 or minimum score IELTS score of 5.0 level is essential. Working knowledge of any other language is an asset. • Interest in the humanitarian sector. • Excellent interpersonal skills. • Strong attention to detail. • Ability to organize yourself and work independently. • Strong command of common computer software and online tools. Location The successful candidate will be based with the team in the Geneva, Switzerland. Conditions The internship is for a duration of six months and will begin in July 2024. It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Mondays to Fridays (40 hours per week).
