This assignment supports an environmental study in Lababia Village, in Huon Gulf District of Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea and the study is led by the Morobe Development Foundation in partnership with the local indigenous communities.

The study aims to assess environmental changes and impacts to inform conservation programs and sustainable development planning.

The GIS analysis will provide detailed information on leatherback turtle nesting site depletion which will be incorporated into a journal on leatherback turtle nesting site depletion. This journal will be submitted to stakeholders including project partners, local communities, and donors.

The Online Volunteers will be included as co-authors or will be acknowledged for their contribution accordingly. Online Volunteers who successfully completed the assignment will receive a certificate through the UNV Platform and will be referenced by the Foundation to attain their future goals and objectives.

The assignment and task will significantly contribute to MDFs goals and objectives which is to support and carry out projects in environment specifically to address climate change issues and contribute to the UN SDGs and objectives.

We are seeking to collaborate with 4 Online Volunteers with expertise in GIS Mapping, Remote Sensing and using Lansat Images and have fair knowledge about leatherback turtle nesting habits and shoreline depletion.

Specifically, Online Volunteers will conduct a remote assessment and literature review which will be used to refine a paper on the same topic which is about to be completed.

The results of their work will constitute the base for a document (journal) about leatherback turtle nesting site depletion as a result of shoreline depletion (due to rising sea levels/climate change).

Required experience: - Preparing academic, and written journals and scientific papers

Required skills: - GIS analysis - Remote sensing - Writing academic, scientific papers and reports - Ability to communicate and work onward deadlines - English; excellent writing and communication skills - Lansat, Google Earth and a wide range of GIS applications

Desired skills: - Degree in GIS, remote sensing, environmental science, geography or related field - PhD preferred but not required - Knowledge of shoreline depletion and leatherback turtle nesting habits
